The title race was blown wide open after Lancashire and Warwickshire won but leaders Durham lost with only three games remaining for most counties.

Durham have played 11 games and are on 173 points after a nine-wicket defeat to Somerset at Taunton.

Marcus Trescothick hammered 163 in Somerset's first innings score of 480, while Mitchell Claydon took 6-104.

Durham collapsed from 156-2 to 220 all out with Will Smith top-scoring with 74. Alfonso Thomas's 4-62 the pick of the bowlers.

Following on, an opening stand of 202 gave Durham hope of drawing the game but even a last wicket partnership of 48 only took them to 378. Will Smith hitting 114 and Michael Di Venuto 91 while Charl Willoughby claimed 4-80.

Chasing 119 Somerset reached their target for the loss of just one wicket at 5.45 runs per over, to secure a nine-wicket win.

Somerset are now fourth on 128 points with three games to play and should be safe from relegation.

Lancashire are second on 168 points after one of the best Roses encounters in recent history, a match they won by just 23 runs.

Batting first, contributions all the way down, including half centuries from Steven Croft (54) and Tom Smith (51) helped Lancashire reach 328.

Ryan Sidebottom took 4-68 and Ajmal Shahzad 3-61.

Yorkshire slumped to 45-8 in reply until Rich Pyrah (117) and Sidebottom (52) put on a record 154-run partnership. It was Pyrah's maiden Championship ton and a ground record partnership as the home side made 239.

Kyle Hogg, twice on a hat-trick, claimed 5-62.

Second time around Lancashire wobbled to 87-8 before Saj Mahmood (50) and Hogg (52) dug them out of trouble as the away side posted 194.

Tim Bresnan, a replacement on Day Two for Iain Wardlaw after being left out of the England Test team, took 4-50 and Pyrah 2-26.

Chasing 284, Yorkshire were going well on 80-1 and partnerships all the way down the order almost saw them home but Lancashire kept them nerve to bowl out the home side for 260.

Adil Rashid top-scored with 48 not out and Andrew Gale made 47. Glen Chapple claimed 5-71 and Gary Keedy 2-51, including the last wicket of Pyrah.

Yorkshire are seventh on 92 points but have played at least a game more than the teams around them.

Warwickshire are third on 160 points after an innings and 43-run victory against Sussex at Edgbaston.

Warwickshire slipped to 30-2 and 366-8 before making 521 as Keith Barker hit 118, Chris Woakes 74, Tim Ambrose 73, William Porterfield 66 and Jeetan Patel 65.

James Anyon took 5-136 and Monty Panesar 3-103.

Murray Goodwin's 94 couldn't help Sussex avoid the follow-on as they were dismissed for 259. Jeetan Patel (4-52) and Chris Woakes (4-67) each took four wickets.

Ed Joyce made 74 and captain Michael Yardy hit 62 not out but the away side were again bundled out for just 219. Patel took 6-111 to secure the innings and 43-run victory for Warwickshire.

Sussex are fifth on 114 points and should be safe from relegation.

Hampshire's draw with Nottinghamshire was overshadowed by the news the home side had been deducted eight points for a poor pitch due to excessive turn.

Hampshire batted first and Neil McKenzie's 97 helped them to 213. Samit Patel took 4-43.

Nottinghamshire replied with 183, in an innings which featured no extras, as Steven Mullaney top scored with 36. Danny Briggs claimed 6-65 and Chris Wood 3-30.

The home side made 171 second time around, with Jimmy Adams's 33 the highest score. Patel was again the main bowler with 7-68.

Chasing 202 to win from 72 overs, Nottinghamshire fell four runs short on 198-6 despite Adam Voges 79. Imran Tahir returned 3-66 and Chris Wood 2-35 as the match ended in a draw.

Due to the deduction, winless Hampshire lose a point and now have 39 points from nine games.

Nottinghamshire are sixth on 106 points and still have relegation concerns.

The next round of fixtures sees eighth placed Worcestershire face Somerset and Lancashire play Nottinghamshire from July 26.
