2011 MLB Trade Rumors: Will Hunter Pence Stay a Houston Astro?
This time last year, a losing Astros team unloaded Roy Oswalt to the Phillies. This year, Hunter Pence finds himself in a similar situation.
All signs point to Pence being dealt due to his superb offensive stats. Many say it's a done deal—A star on a losing team is almost always dealt during this time.
However, John Heyman of SI.com states that the asking price of the Astros will lower the chances of a trade, but he adds that the Astros will attempt to lower their payroll to $60 million.
Pence has been a topic of interest with many clubs due to his bat. But after these reports, New York Mets outfielder Carlos Beltran should be the best bat available via trade.
Along with Pence, Padres RHP Mike Adams is also now speculated to be staying put. Still, this could be a ploy by GM's or by ownership in order to receive better offers.
Pence is under contract until the end of the season, making almost seven million dollars. He is currently being targeted by the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Atlanta Braves, and other playoff contending teams.
The voice of the Fan: "Would you deal Hunter Pence if the price is right?"
