Pro Wrestling: The 5 Best nWo Parodies
It was 15 years ago today, July 7, 1996, that the New World Order of Wresling (nWo) was formed. The always face superstar Hulk Hogan turned his back on the fans to join up with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to form one of the most well-known factions in wrestling history.
The idea of nWo originated in Japan under the same exact name and logo, but the American version is known worldwide. Fifteen years later, it is still something associated with all three men.
Over time, the idea of the nWo would get old as new members came and went and rival groups were formed. At the end of the day, the New World Order was a great idea that was overused and dragged on too long and too large.
On this, the 15th anniversary of one of the most shocking moments in WCW history, we look back on five of the most infamous spinoffs of the New World Order. Many were formed as jokes, but if it wasn't for the original, none of them would have happened.
5) nWo 2000
1 of 5The nWo 2000 started out with all of the momentum that they could possibly have. The Outsiders and Jeff Jarrett joined up with Bret Hart (who was playing the role of Hulk Hogan this time around) to form the new nWo.
At the time of formation, they had WCW's World title and United States title. However, the group had just as much switching out of members and proved to those involved with WCW (hopefully) that the nWo idea was dead.
4) oWn
2 of 5The oWn, also known as the One Warrior Nation, was a term coined by Warrior (Ultimate Warrior, for us WWE fans) after he signed with WCW and looked to go after Hulk Hogan.
Warrior only wrestled three matches in WCW, so this is not that well-known in the wrestling world anymore. Needless to say, it was forgettable.
3) lWo
3 of 5At the time of the nWo era in WCW, Eddie Guerrero rallied the Latino members of the roster together to form the lWo, or Latino World Order. It was more well-received with the fans at the time who were sick of nWo.
It pretty much consisted of all the Latino WCW wrestlers outside of Chavo Guerrero (poor Chavo). It is not looked much as a huge parody and actually has a rather positive reputation.
Let's face facts; the groups like Mexican America and LAX in TNA wish they could be what lWo was in WCW.
2) bWo
4 of 5The Blue World Order is heralded as one of the funniest parodies that have ever occurred in wrestling history.
The blue guys from ECW consisted of Big Stevie Cool (Stevie Richards), Hollywood Nova (Super Nova, aka WWE's Simon Dean) and Da Blue Guy (The Blue Meanie).
It was hilarious and would still be funny today if they formed again.
1) nWo Wolfpac
5 of 5I'll likely get called out because this was technically the same group and a serious one at that, but the Wolfpac was a terrible spin-off of the original.
It got to be ridiculous that most of the WCW was either nWo Hollywood or nWo Wolfpac.
Everyone who was in one was probably in the other at some point. It was just totally dumb and, for its sake, I'm calling it a parody.
