Mbappé's Rollercoaster Season 🎢

Sorry Arsenal, but the Game goes on for 90 Minutes

Callum D'SouzaOct 29, 2008

There's 22 minutes left, Arsenal's trusty Dutchman Robin van Persie fires in to make it 4-2, and as an Arsenal fan you would of breathed a sigh of relief—that must be game over.

Arsenal had full control over the game and didn't look flustered, you would of put all your money on them to win and get their title campaigns back on track—but it was not to be.

It took only two minutes to see Arsenal's Premiership hopes half flushed down the drain and for Tottenham to draw a game that they really should have lost.

Arsenal were good—they played the ball around nicely, they attacked and defended well—but let their guard down in the final minutes and two quick goals ensured an unlikely draw for Tottenham.

It could have been the subbing of Robin van Persie which halted Arsenal, van Persie is now starting to find great form and goals and as an Arsenal fan you pray he stays fit. Robin was fantastic and should of bagged another goal, he certainly deserved it.

Manuel Almunia, though he has been good this season you do feel that he could of done better and something about the last two Tottenham goals—it is harsh to put the draw on him but Tottenham's third goal you'd expect a 'keeper like Manuel Almunia to catch.

Lukas Fabianski is quietly waiting for his chance to shine, and it wouldn't hurt to see what he has got to offer.

This is not the only time Arsenal have been thwarted by Tottenham in the final moments, in 2006-07 Jermaine Jenas' last gasp long range effort in the final moments scavenged Tottenham a draw, in another game Arsenal should of taken.

What hurts the most is that the game was at home, and it was to Tottenham. Any other team it wouldn't be so bad, but now Harry and his boys and fans have something to smile about—and that's the worst thing, a Tottenham fan smiling over an Arsenal's fans misfortune.

Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United and probably most other teams would not let a game like that slip away, especially with a two goal lead.

If Arsenal are continually not going to keep consistency and not play for the full 90 minutes, then they are never going to be a real title threat. Already this season Arsenal have failed to play for 90 minutes and they get a disappointing result.

Though Arsenal do seem to have a different feel about them in the Champions League, and if they can continue playing like they are playing in Europe then they will be in with a huge chance of continental club glory.

Maybe Arsenal need a change of coach, or a change of formation. or a different style of play, but something needs to change—and that's because, with the team they have and the quality of players they have you would have expected more wins, and of course more trophies.
