College Football Recruiting 2012: Odds For Top 25 Teams to Get the No. 1 Recruit

Edwin WeathersbyJun 26, 2011

This year, for 2012 recruiting, there is not a true consensus or hands down No.1 recruit. Some say Arik Armstead deserves the honor, while others claim the best prospect is Mario Edwards.

But more times than not, when you look at most lists, Dorial Green-Beckham is No.1 and I have him as my top prospect as well.

For this read, I'm going to quickly run down the top 25 teams in the country and assess their chances of landing the elite WR recruit.

25. Tulsa

1 of 25

They have no shot. Period. DGB is not going to Tulsa and neither is any top 100 player.

Sorry, Golden Hurricane fans, but it's just how recruiting is right now.

But you'll have better success on the field in 2011.

24. Texas

2 of 25

Texas has a solid shot, as Green-Beckham took a visit to Austin recently.

I don't view them as a slam dunk, but the Longhorns are in the race as it seems he wants to not stray too far from his Springfield, MO area. Yet, the Longhorns already have two great WR commits in Thomas Johnson and Cayleb Jones.

So DGB isn't a huge need for Mack Brown.

23. Arizona State

3 of 25

No chance, and extremely slim odds if that.

Arizona State is not really on DGB too hard, as their efforts are more on players like Bryce Treggs and Davonte Neal among others.

He's not going to Tempe.

22. Florida

4 of 25

Florida is in the race, they're not a slam dunk, but they have a shot.

I don't expect Green-Beckham to end up in Gainesville, but as opposed to the teams mentioned before, they have the best shot.

Look for Florida to lurk around as long as they can.

21. Missouri

5 of 25

Missouri has an excellent chance of landing Green-Beckham, as he is a Show Me State native.

In fact, rumors are running crazy that the Tigers are one of three "secret" finalists for the 6'6", 220 pounder. The hometown school always is in the race, and Mizzou is thick in the hunt for DGB.

Who are the other alleged finalists? Let's see.

20. Notre Dame

6 of 25

Notre Dame is a school in consideration, but the Irish likely aren't a serious contender right now.

There is some interest, but it's mild at best.

Notre Dame is best served going after the likes of Leonte Carroo, Eugene Lewis and Dwayne Stanford.

19. Nebraska

7 of 25

No chance. Sorry Big Red supporters. He's just not going to Nebraska, as the Cornhuskers aren't exactly "Wide Receiver U".

Amara Dorboh is the highest ranked WR most likely to go to Lincoln.

Nothing against Nebraska, but Green-Beckham is basically 0 odds of signing with the Cornhuskers.

18. Virginia Tech

8 of 25

No chance at all for Green-Beckham. None.

Eugene Lewis, Kwinton Smith and Joel Caleb are the highest ranked WRs that Frank Beamer has any chance of landing as it looks right now.

Moving on...

17. South Carolina

9 of 25

There doesn't seem to be much, if any interest right now from Green-Beckham in the Gamecocks.

In all honestly, I think this isn't a huge loss for South Carolina from the standpoint of they sit pretty for another 5-star WR, Shaq Roland.

Roland is a Palmetto state native, and is the top player on the board for South Carolina.

16. Mississippi State

10 of 25

I really don't think the odds look good for the Bulldogs. There doesn't seem to be much interest here.

But the Bulldogs are recruiting Jason Croom, a 6'5", 23-pounder that has comparable size to Green-Beckham.

But as for DGB himself, I highly doubt he ends up a Bulldog.

15. Arkansas

11 of 25

Very good shot of signing Green-Beckham. The Hogs are in this thing big time according to many observers.

The theme for Green-Beckham seems to be he doesn't want to leave the Midwest or go too far away from it. Bobby Petrino throws the football and Arkansas scores points, which appeals to Green-Beckham.

The Razorbacks have a great chance.

14. Wisconsin

12 of 25

See Virginia Tech, Nebraska and Tulsa...

13. TCU

13 of 25

See Wisconsin...

The Horned Frogs do have a commitment from a solid, 6'0", 170-pound WR in Kolby Listenbee.

12. Michigan State

14 of 25

No real shot. Just the lay of the land right now, as Green-Beckham doesn't seem to be looking at the Spartans.

However, Michigan State does seem to be in on 4-star WRs Aaron Burbridge, Dwayne Stanford, Leonte Carroo and Eugene Lewis.

They have a better chance of landing one the prior four than they do Green-Beckham.

11. Auburn

15 of 25

Auburn is under mild consideration and I would be surprised if DGB failed make it to The Plains for an unofficial Summer visit to check out the champs.

Yet, while the odds are not bad per se for Auburn, they're overwhelmingly good in my book.

I think right now, the Tigers are really keen on recruiting Kwinton Smith, a 6'5", 195 pound WR rated 4-stars.

10. Florida State

16 of 25

The Seminoles don't seem to be a school that intrigues Green-Beckham and really aren't viewed as a school in consideration.

So I'd have to put the odds for him winding up in Tallahassee as slim at best. Any team can get back in the race, as we have until February 2012, but FSU is way behind the pack.

Chris Black is their true top WR target on the board right now.

9. Texas A&M

17 of 25

He's going to College Station, just not happening.

But this isn't going to be a stinging blow at all, as the Aggies already have four commits from WR prospects and two of the four are 4-star players in Bralon Addison and Corey Thompson.

Also, 5-star QB Matt Davis is a super athlete and some say he could easily play WR in college if asked.

8. Oklahoma State

18 of 25

The Pokes have shot, not a big one, but he's on the radar in Stillwater.

Green-Beckham has some interest in the Cowboys as they toss the rock around and are in the area of the country he gives an impression he wants to stay in.

I don't think he ends up a Cowboy, but it's not as impossible as it is for most schools on this list.

7. Ohio State

19 of 25

There's interest, but he's going to Ohio State in my opinion. I just can't see a 5-star recruit not from the upper-Midwest going to a program on the verge of being hit hard with sanctions.

Again, there's some, key word-some, interest, but it's not happening Buckeye fans.

Moving along...

6. Boise State

20 of 25

See Wisconsin...

5. Stanford

21 of 25

Highly doubt he ends up at Stanford, and their odds are next to 0.

There just doesn't seem to be any interest from either side and both are looking elsewhere.

I also think it would be tough to even get a visit out of Green-Beckham to The Farm, as Stanford is a long trip from Springfield, Mo.

4. Oregon

22 of 25

See Stanford...

3. LSU

23 of 25

Good chance here. The Tigers are recruiting Green-Beckham solidly, and I would be surprised if he doesn't make an unofficial to Baton Rouge the same way I think he may visit Auburn this Summer.

LSU doesn't seem to be one of the core major players, but they do have a small chance to get him if they stay on him.

2. Alabama

24 of 25

Excellent chance Dorial Green-Beckham signs with Alabama. The Crimson Tide are the second school of the alleged "three finalists" that DGB is rumored to be really being high on.

Alabama has become a recruiting juggernaut under Nick Saban and is one of the lead dogs in the best conference in college football.

Watch out for Alabama, there's serious interest from both sides and they have very good odds.

1. Oklahoma

25 of 25

Oklahoma is where many expect Green-Beckham to end up. In fact, there are a lot of recruiting observers that feel he is an OU lean.

The odds are significantly high he winds up in Norman, and just recently Green-Beckham and his entire family were spotted at the OU campus, touring the school, meeting with coaches and looking at the facilities.

Would be a little shocked if Oklahoma doesn't secure his services next February.
