Klitschko vs. Haye: The 10 Best Heavyweight Knockouts of the Last 2 Years

First LastJun 25, 2011

IBF and WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO) hopes to get his 50th knockout victory when he takes on WBA World Heavyweight Champion David Haye (25-1, 23 KO) on July 2.

Of their four combined losses, all have come by knockout, and that's what everyone is expecting when the fight goes down at the Imtech-Arena in Hamburg, Germany.

The war of words is over, and there has been a lot of it. For over two years, the two boxers have been challenging each other. They were scheduled to fight in 2009, but Haye pulled out two weeks before the bout.

Now that the fight is just days away, it's time to look at some of the very best knockouts in the heavyweight division of the last two years.

No. 10: Shannon Briggs KO1 Rafael Pedro (April 13, 2010)

1 of 10

You could tell by the way Shannon Briggs came out in the first round that he had no intentions of letting Rafael Pedro take this fight longer than it had to go.

All it took was 20 seconds before Pedro was dropped against the ropes. "The Cannon" casually walked away on an easy night's work as Pedro was counted out.

No. 9: Robert Helenius TKO2 Attila Levin (Nov. 27, 2010)

2 of 10

Attila Levin went into his bout with heavyweight prospect Robert Helenius with a 34-3 record and was on a five-fight win streak.

Helenius was undefeated at 13-0 and knocked Levin down in Round 2 with a right hand. He followed up with a combination as Levin went against the ropes and earned the TKO victory in a very entertaining and quick fight.

No. 8: David Haye TKO3 Audley Harrison (Nov. 13, 2010)

3 of 10

In David Haye's last fight, he fought dangerous puncher Audley Harrison, who was 27-4 and on a four-fight win streak at the time of the fight.

After a cautious opening two rounds, Haye opened up in the third and put Harrison down with a combination, displaying a rare combination of speed and power. He followed up with more punches, forcing the referee to stop the bout.

No. 7: Chris Arreola TKO4 Brian Minto (Dec. 5, 2009)

4 of 10

This was an important fight for Chris Arreola. He was just coming off the devastating defeat to WBC Heavyweight Champion Vitali Klitschko and wanted to come back strong and show he was not affected by the loss.

He faced tough journeyman Brian Minto and put on one of the best heavyweight fights of 2009. Minto hung in there for as long as he could but was stopped in Round 4 after being dropped twice.

No. 6: David Tua TKO2 Shane Cameron (Oct. 3, 2009)

5 of 10

After being out of the ring for more than two years, David Tua returned in 2009 and put on a vicious display of power in his fight with Shane Cameron.

Tua knocked Cameron down twice in the very first round and finished him off quickly in Round 2.

No. 5: Audley Harrison KO12 Michael Sprott (April 9, 2010)

6 of 10

In a rematch of their bout that happened three years earlier, Audley Harrison hoped to get some revenge of the first man to knock him out.

Michael Sprott fought well for 11 rounds, but Harrison caught him with a left hook that knocked him unconscious with two minues to go in the final round of the bout.

No. 4: Johnathon Banks KO6 Travis Walker (March 20, 2010)

7 of 10

It was probably the most boring fight of 2010, but it ended in highlight-reel fashion after former cruiserweight boxer Johnathon Banks caught Travis Walker with a right hand in Round 6 of their bout.

Banks' only loss as a professional is to Tomasz Adamek and has gone 5-0-1 since that fight, including this 2010 victory.

No. 3: Wladimir Klitschko KO12 Eddie Chambers (March 20, 2010)

8 of 10

"Fast" Eddie Chambers was known for his quick hands, but he was an undersized heavyweight when challenging Wladimir Klitschko for his title belts in Germany.

It was an ugly fight with little action throughout the first 11 rounds. After Klitschko was told by his trainer Emanuel Steward to go out and look for the knockout, he did just that and got it with 15 seconds left in the fight after landing a left hand.

No. 2: Robert Helenius KO9 Samuel Peter (April 2, 2011)

9 of 10

Robert Helenius showcased his power once again in stopping former WBC Heavyweight Champion Samuel Peter in April, 2011.

It was one of the best knockouts of the year and a surprising one. Peter was only stopped by Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko in his career and showcased a great chin in past bouts.

It didn't hold up in his bout with Helenius, and he was put away in Round 9.

No. 1: Alexander Dimitrenko KO12 Albert Sosnowski (March 26, 2011)

10 of 10

One of the leading candidates for 2011's knockout of the year was in the bout between heavyweight prospect Alexander Dimitrenko and former title challenger Albert Sosnowski.

It was a very competitive bout for the first 11 rounds and could have gone either way had it gone to a decision.

Dimitrenko came out in the final round and landed a devastating uppercut that put Sosnowski down and out on the canvas.
