10 Greatest Knockouts of Wladimir Klitschko's Career

First LastJun 24, 2011

IBF and WBO Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko will be searching for his 50th knockout victory when he takes on WBA World Heavyweight Champion David Haye on Saturday, July 2.

Klitschko (55-3, 49 KO), who is also known as "Dr. Steelhammer," has an incredible 85 percent knockout ratio while his opponent, Haye (25-1, 23 KO), has a 88 percent knockout ratio with less than half the amount of bouts.

It all goes down at the Imtech-Arena in Hamburg, Germany and is widely considered to be the best heavyweight fight since Lennox Lewis fought Wladimir's brother, Vitali Klitschko, in 2003.

Of their combined four defeats, they have all come by knockout so don't expect anything less than a lot of excitement in the ring.

These are Wladimir Klitschko's 10 best knockouts.

No. 10: Charles Shufford (Aug. 4, 2001)

1 of 10

Klitschko's third defense of the WBO heavyweight title that he won against Chris Byrd the first time came against Charles Shufford, who was coming off of a victory against Lamon Brewster.

He dominated the fight and knocked Shufford down three times before winning by TKO in Round 6.

The knockout occurs at 9:13 in the video.

No. 9: Derrick Jefferson (March 24, 2001)

2 of 10

In Klitschko's second defense of the WBO title immediately before the Shufford fight, he took on Derrick Jefferson, who was 23-2-1 and coming off back-to-back knockout losses the year before.

It didn't take long, and Klitschko put his overmatched opponent down three times to get the second-round TKO victory.

First knockdown occurs at 4:28, second knockdown at 7:34.

No. 8: Francois Botha (March 16, 2002)

3 of 10

After his back-to-back knockout wins over Charles Shufford and Derrick Jefferson, Klitschko took on the tough and durable boxer from South Africa, Francois Botha.

Botha only had three losses on his record to Michael Moorer, Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis before taking on Klitschko in 2002.

Klitschko finished him off in Round 8 with a brutal combination.

No. 7: Ray Mercer (June 29, 2002)

4 of 10

After the fight with Botha, Klitschko signed to meet former heavyweight champion Ray Mercer three months later in June.

Mercer, who has one of the all-time great chins in the division, was dropped in the first round by the heavy-handed Klitschko and survived to make it through half of the fight before being stopped in Round 6.

Klitschko became the first man to ever stop the iron-chinned heavyweight.

No. 6: Samuel Peter (Sept. 11, 2010)

5 of 10

This was a rematch of an earlier fight that Klitschko and Samuel Peter had in 2005. Klitschko won a unanimous decision but was dropped three times throughout the 12-round distance.

Peter came into the bout on a four-fight win streak but was no match for youngest of the Klitschko brothers.

He got knocked out in Round 10 after Klitschko landed a devastating uppercut and follow-up punches.

No. 5: Tony Thompson (July 12, 2008)

6 of 10

It had been eight years since Tony Thompson lost a fight, and he was on a 27-fight win streak going into his bout with Klitschko.

Thompson had beaten Timur Ibragimov, Dominick Guinn and Luan Krasniqi.

It was a slow-paced bout throughout until Klitschko landed a thunderous right hand in the second to last round.

No. 4: Calvin Brock (Nov. 11, 2006)

7 of 10

Calvin Brock went into his 2006 bout with Klitschko with an impressive 33-0 record, including victories over Jameel McCline, Timur Ibragimov and a spectacular knockout of the year candidate against Zuri Lawrence.

Klitschko had just defeated Chris Byrd for the second time and was looking good going into the bout.

He fought a cautious first six rounds but found his mark in Round 7 with a huge right hand.

No. 3: Ray Austin (March 10, 2007)

8 of 10

In Klitschko's quickest knockout victory in the past eight years, he put down Ray Austin, who was 24-3-4 and coming off close fights versus Sultan Ibragimov and Larry Donald.

A powerful left hook knocked Austin down and out against the ropes in the second round. It was the first time he had been defeated since 2001.

Knockout occurs at 4:50 in the video.

No. 2: Najee Shaheed (July 10, 1998)

9 of 10

In Klitschko's 19th professional bout, he took on the undefeated boxer from Brockton Massachusetts, Najee Shaheed.

It didn't take more than one round after Klitschko landed a right hand and knocked Shaheed down. Shaheed tried to get up but couldn't, falling down several times, reminiscent of Tyson vs. Berbick.

No. 1: Eddie Chambers (March 20, 2010)

10 of 10

"Fast" Eddie Chambers hadn't given his best effort in the first 11 rounds of his bout with Klitschko in 2010, and it was a clearly dominant fight for the boxer from Ukraine.

After Klitschko's trainer, Emanuel Steward, insisted he go out and try to knock his opponent out, he did just that, putting Chambers away with a left hook with less than 15 seconds to go in the bout.
