ACC's Top-100: No. 88 Kenny Kadji, Miami

Rob MurrayJun 17, 2011

We’re now 12 spots in, and we’re heading back to Coral Cables to introduce you to another Hurricanes big man.

When we say big, we’re undercutting him. Trust us.

PLAYER: Kenny Kadji

DEEP THOUGHTS:

If you haven’t seen him play yet, don’t worry—you won’t be able to miss him in 2011-2012. He’s a big boy.

Kenny Kadji is one of two Miami transfers who will be eligible to play this fall. Kadji comes from upstate, playing 42 games for the Florida Gators.

He missed most of his sophomore year with a bad back. However, he did average about 12 minutes per game his freshman year, as well as 4.4 points and 2.7 rebounds.

He was the fifth-ranked center in the 2008 class thanks to his rare combination of size, bulk and length. His bulk and wingspan alone makes NBA scouts wet themselves.

Plenty of experts probably have Kadji penciled in as the starter at power forward along side Reggie Johnson.

However, I’m not ready to do any such thing.

First, he hasn’t played a real game of basketball since December of 2009. Second, he’s not the most gifted basketball player in the world.

The last time I checked, lack of experience and skill was not a beautiful combo.

At Florida, Kadji was able to use his size to get great position inside, but he didn’t seem to know what to do with the ball once he got down low. Like so many big men, the game just seemed to go at one speed, while he was at a slower speed.

On top of that, despite his girth, he struggled with toughness inside.

For now, it’s hard to predict what Jim Larranaga will do. He could go small and put senior DeQuan Jones at the 4-spot, but that would be real small. If Larranaga wants size in the starting lineup, then the option will be senior Julian Gamble or Kenny Kadji.

Since I have Kadji ranked 88th in my countdown and you have yet to see Julian Gamble, clearly you can tell whom I think will get the starting nod.

Either way, I suspect they’ll basically be splitting the minutes evenly.
