Ferrari To Reconsider Participation In Formula One
Scuderia Ferrari have announced to the press that they may reconsider their participation in F1 come 2010.
This comes after the FIA have put forward a proposition to bring in standardised engines to cut the spiralling costs in Formula One at present.
A few teams have said they would like standardised engines and gearboxes as it would bring the field a lot closer together and more driver skill would be involved in winning races and the richest team wouldn't necessarily be the best team.
However, "The Best Team" have come out and and totally rejected the idea.
"The board of Ferrari, confirming its full support for the substantial and necessary reduction in costs starting with engines, has however expressed strong reservations about the project to equalise or standardise engines. The board reserves the right to consider, together with our partners, our presence in this discipline."
That's basically saying they are going to reconsider participation should the standard engine rule come into play.
Before the Chinese Grand Prix earlier this month, the FIA released a tender for "a third-party supplier of engines and transmission systems" to be used by all teams in 2010, 2011 and 2012.
The FIA have argued that the rising costs just to participate in F1 are getting out of control and some teams such as Williams and Toro Rosso will find it hard to afford a season's worth of engines and gearboxes.
One man who totally supports the standardisation rule is Mr Moneybags Bernie Ecclestone.
"We're trying to get a level playing field, I don't see why (manufacturers) should leave, we're saving them an awful lot of money I hope. All the technical things will still be there, they can show all of their talent."
Personally, I think standard engines and gearboxes are a good idea, it puts more focus on driver skill and less focus on the big money teams. However, if it was to be standard engines and gearboxes or Ferrari, I would have to choose Ferrari.
They are an amazing team, Formula One without Ferrari would be like football without Manchester United.
