The Hundredth Article on Anderson Silva and UFC 90: A Look On The Bright Side...
So we all saw it, and if you didn’t, be thankful you didn’t pay for it. Anderson Silva gave either tons of respect to Patrick Cote, or made a fool of him. I was unsure what to think for those 2 rounds that seemed, well, like 2 friends love tapping each other. But since I had seen UFC All Access with Playboy Centerfold, Rachelle Leah, I don’t think Silva was trying to make a fool of anyone on purpose, but only himself on accident.
All in all it’s proven Anderson Silva is a great fighter, cause of his killer instinct. But whatever he was doing was… well, silly, to say the least and nicest thing I could say. The guy is an overall good guy, so I doubt he was trying to make a mockery of Patrick Cote. I do honestly think he did what he did on purpose, obviously, but I think he was trying to goad Cote into his usual aggressive style. I thought Anderson Silva thought that if he could get Cote fired up, get him to get aggressive, he could knock out Cote the way he planned for. He did say about James Irvin that he knew Irvin was going to come in with a kick and when he did, bam. So my honest, optimistic opinion Anderson Silva was doing something of that nature with Cote. I laughed it off, yelled at the screen a few times, and waited, and waited, and… nothing…
I’d rather see a 0:35 second destruction than a 3 round “showboat” fest if you will. Maybe that’s just me, but reading reports everywhere shows that everyone’s with me. I am sure Dana Whiteand the UFC is infuriated, and they should be. If I had any say, my best bet is that Silva will be fighting again in 2 months tops.
As for Cote, the guy tried and trained his heart out, but just simply wasn’t aggressive enough for a challenger. Sure he might’ve gotten knocked out, but he could’ve also knocked the FORMER best pound for pound fighter in the world out as well. At least Cote still hasn’t been knocked down by any man, including the FORMER best pound for pound fighter in the world.
Why FORMER, you ask? Simple, Tim Sylvia had no place in the ring with Fedor Emelianenkobesides his fluffed up stats, so Fedor destroyed him. Until Anderson Silva makes up for that, in my book he is now #2. And when Georges St. Pierre defeats B.J. Penn, or maybe vice-versa, Anderson Silva becomes #3. All because he was “looking” for his shot rather than “taking” what was there.
All in all, I am still looking for the bright side of it. I think I’ve found it, Anderson Silva is going to, reportedly, retire by the time he is 35. That is 18 months away I think they said on the show Saturday. So I think he will, but we won’t see the last of him on TV at that time. If the best fighter in the world was trying out for Dancing with the Stars when he finally retired, he did a good job…
