Yoosof Farah's Top Five EPL Goals: Matchday Nine

Yoosof FarahOct 26, 2008

Here are my top five goals from matchday nine in the Barclay's Premier League:

5. Kamil Zayette—Hull City

On loan from BSC Young Boys in Switzerland, centre-back Kamil Zayette opened his Hull City account, scoring the first goal of the game for the Tigers in their eventual 3-0 rout. The centre-back took advantage of a lapse in concentration by the West Brom defence and volleyed home to put his side in front.

4. Darren Fletcher—Manchester United

A game of two halves. First half: brilliant. Second half: dire. Fletcher opened up the scoring as he scored United's only goal in their 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park.

After receiving a clever pass from Ryan Giggs, the Scottish midfielder took it past Joleon Lescott before finishing coolly past Tim Howard.

3. Afonso Alves—Middlesbrough

The Brazilian thought he'd won it before Benni McCarthy equalised for Blackburn in stoppage time. It was a great goal by the Brazilian, latching onto Gary O'Neil's long ball before turning inside Andre Ooijer, and smashing home a vicious right foot shot from the edge of the area.

2. Steve Sidwell—Aston Villa

The ex-Chelsea midfielder capped off a perfect afternoon for Villa as he scored his first goal for the club and the fourth of the game in Villa's fantastic 4-0 rout of Wigan at the JJB.

Sidwell, an 84th minute replacement for Stiliyan Petrov, opened his account for Villa with some aplomb, curling a right-footed shot from the edge of the box into the top corner, leaving Chris Kirkland with no chance.

1. Kieran Richardson—Sunderland

Kieran Richardson may now claim heroic status at Sunderland after scoring the winning goal in their 2-1 win over Newcastle in the Wear-Tyne derby.

After conceding a free-kick on the edge of their box 15 minutes from time, Newcastle were made to pay as Richardson smashed home a thunderous free-kick, hit with such velocity and swerve that it left the classy Shay Given quite bemused.

It was the winning goal as Sunderland beat archrival Newcastle for the first time since 1980.
