Top Five College Football Prospects
Top Five College Football Prospects
#1: Tim Tebow, QB - Florida Gators
Honestly, how can you not put this guy at the top? Won the Heisman as a sophomore? Scored as many rush TD’s as Emmett Smith? I don't have to say too much more. I wouldn't say I've become a bandwagon fan, but I definitely have learned to love him. Personally, I think that Darren McFadden should have won the heisman, but that's not the case. Tebow is the ultimate duel threat and should definitely go number one, enough said.
#2: Michael Crabtree, WR - Texas Tech Red Raiders
This kid is a freak of nature; I'm talking the next Cris Carter, possibly Jerry Rice. As there will never be another Brett Favre, there will never be another Jerry Rice, but this kid will get close. He plays with his head first, hands second, and legs third. He's fast, big, strong, and will catch close to anything you throw within ten yards of him. The big hook for NFL teams will be he doesn't get into trouble like a lot of big name receivers and we all know who those are. He will work hard, keep his mouth shut, score touchdowns, and block on the perimeter for almost any team with a decent QB at the next level.
#3: Malcolm Jenkins, CB - The Ohio State University
Malcolm Jenkins won't make most draft board's top five list, but this kid is a phenom. He is the definition of shutdown corner, that's obvious. Besides that he is the ideal height, weight, and stature of an NFL cornerback. Think DeAngelo Hall or LaRon Landry (as a corner) when it comes to Jenkins. A lot of mouths will drop and eyes open at the scouting combine in February next year when Jenkins hits the bench and runs his 40, look for him to go top-10 in next year's draft.
#4: Pat White, QB - West Virginia Mountaineers
This is really going to get some criticism, I can already hear it, and feel free to comment, this guy is the biggest name in West Virginia; yes even though his team isn't even in the top 25 right now. Even after the Mountaineers lost to an unranked Pittsburgh team that cost the National Championship game in 2007, even after Rich Rodriguez left for Michigan, and even after he can't seem to win a big game this year.
Pat White will play in the NFL, I can guarantee you that. Will he go in the first or second round? Probably not. Will he play quarterback in the NFL? Probably not, but he will find his place and will get the job done. There will be some coach, some franchise at the next level that takes a gamble on Pat White and will see it pay off. Pat White does not make mistakes! Has he thrown INT's? Yes, has he made the wrong read on an option, of course, but it is extremely rare.
Maybe he plays at tailback, maybe at wide receiver, maybe return man, maybe on the defensive side of the ball, but I can assure you that Pat White is a football player who knows the game and fans will see his name again at the professional level. He has way too much dedication, way too much ability, way too much passion and way too much leadership capability to stop playing football after this season. He is absolutely a top five college football player and will make it although many don't see him playing the game of football after this season.
#5: Knowshon Moreno, RB - Georgia Bulldogs
I have to admit, I didn't think Moreno was deserving of first team all-american the first few times I saw him, and he probably wouldn't make too many top five lists out there. Sure you could put tons of players in this last spot such as McCoy, Maclin, James Laurinaitis, Bini Wells, Stafford, or Javon Ringer, but I've come to really believe in this kid. What sets Moreno apart from all the other running backs in college football is his strength and passion. Yeah he's athletic, everyone knew that, yea he can run the ball, yeah he can score, but today when I watched the Bulldogs against arguably the most storied defense this decade, LSU, he carried the ball about eight times on a deciding drive, late in the game, with the score close and LSU with comeback momentum. He will have the ability to make defenders miss and combined that with his strength will make him an asset at the next level as he makes the top five list of best college football players in the 2008-2009 football season.
