Floyd Mayweather Vs.Victor Ortiz: 5 Boxers We'd Rather See Money May Face
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is facing Victor Ortiz in about three months and by the time he enters the ring, the unbeaten boxer will have clocked 16 months of inactivity.
Going up against Victor Ortiz, the new WBC welterweight champion, will probably help him deal with powerful southpaws if his intention is to really train hard in preparation for a possible clash with pound-for-pound king Manny Pacquiao.
Although he denies his date with Ortiz is not a tune-up exercise for a fight with Pacquiao next year, critics including Pacquiao's trainer Freddie Roach say he is indeed preparing for it.
Mayweather has not been spared of criticisms coming from the more passionate fans about the manner in which he chooses his opponents very carefully to ensure his victory in every fight.
In picking Ortiz for his ring return, not many fans have objected to his choice which goes to say that he made a fair choice.
Still, boxing fans are saying they'd rather see Mayweather face a more credible and worthy opponent before facing the highly-rated Filipino boxing superstar.
Here are five other boxers who fans would rather see Mayweather face for his ring return.
Floyd Mayweather vs. Sergio Martinez
1 of 5
If Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer's assertion saying a fight with Victor Ortiz is not a tune-up for Mayweather, then the unbeaten champion should have signed up to face Manny Pacquiao instead of Victor Ortiz.
But fans probably know that Ortiz is indeed part of his preparation for Manny Pacquiao.
Granting Ortiz is not a tune up fight, why not face Martinez instead if it is true that he is scared or afraid to face Manny Pacquiao as what most fans are saying?
A win over Martinez would erase all doubts by some quarters that Mayweather is not interested in facing Pacquiao because he is scared or even afraid as the more passionate fans think he is?
Floyd Mayweather Vs.Antonio Margarito

Antonio Margarito is a real giant physically compared to Manny Pacquiao. But the "midget" as he was referred to by Mayweather, sent Margarito to a nearby hospital for his detached retina, all because of the constant pounding by the smaller guy.
If Mayweather can defeat Margarito, it will only show that he is the better fighter and therefore he deserves a shot at Pacquiao.
Fans are wondering why he has not shown interest in facing Margarito despite the constant calls from the Mexican idol.
Floyd Mayweather vs. Miguel Cotto
3 of 5
If Manny Pacquiao was able to demolish Miguel Cotto via TKO in their classic 12-round encounter in 2009, there is no reason Mayweather can at least duplicate Pacquiao's victory over the Puerto Rican idol.
Fans have been asking Maywether for quite some time to prove his worth over either Cotto or Margarito to see how well he perform over the two highly-rated boxers who were defeated by Pacquiao.
Calls from avid boxing fans fell through deaf ears as Mayweather continue to ignore their call, giving no reasons at all on why he does not wish to face either Cotto or Margarito.
Mayweather vs. Timothy Bradley
4 of 5
Boxing fans and Mayweather supporters have been criticizing Pacquiao for choosing old opponents who are past their primes even if they include the best and highly rated boxers such as Oscar de la Hoya and Shane Mosley.
Tim Bradley has called Mayweather for a possible fight right after he won over Devon Alexander but the unbeaten champion did not react to the call.
Bradley could have been the answer to his fan's allegations that Pacquiao was lording it over with older boxers who are already due for retirement.
Bradley is young and unbeaten.
Floyd Mayweather vs. Paul Williams
5 of 5
Sergio Martinez hit the limelight with his recent KO victory over Paul Williams in a rematch in Atlantic City last year, a fight that gave Williams his second defeat in his career.
Boxing fans say it was just a lucky punch from Martinez that did it and they think Williams was careless with his defense.
Williams has 41 fights to his credit with only two defeats and much younger than Mayweather at 29.
Paul Williams would be a good match for the unbeaten boxer, it is almost the same as Manny taking on elite welterweights though Williams is now campaigning in the middleweight.
