UFC 91 Preview And Prediction

Matt Riddle versus Ryan Thomas

First off Ryan Thomas has the nickname of the tank engine...like Thomas the tank engine.  That being said it is really hard to take a guy seriously that derives his nickname from a children's television show.  Matt Riddle is still very inexperienced, but a great future talent.  I think Riddle can definitely do some damage with his heavy hands, and wrestling ability.  He can Keep Thomas from catching him in a submission, and then it is just a match up of who has the better striking.

Riddle, by TKO

Alvin Robinson versus Mark Bocek

Maybe it's because Alvin Robinson slightly resembles Thiago Alves, but I expect this guy to be a lot better than he is.  Alvin is definitely lacking in the striking department, but his submissions are descent at least.

Robinson, by submission

Jeremy Stephens versus Rafael Dos Anjos

Jeremy Stephens has to keep this fight on the feet.  I think he may be able to.  Stephens, if he can keep it standing stands a great chance at knocking out Raffi.

Stephens, by KO

Jorge Gurgel versus Aaron Riley

I am going to go with Aaron Riley on this one...the only reason I am picking him is, I like Jorge, and every time I pick Jorge to win he doesn't.  So here we go Jorge make me wrong on this pick.

Aaron Riley, by decision

Dustin Hazelett versus Tamdan McCrory

Dustin Hazelett has great submission skills.  Well actually both of these guys are solid mid level fighters, and it will be hard to choose which one will pick up the decision win, but I really don't see this fight being finished.

McCrory, by split decision

Nate Quarry versus Demien Maia

Now I am more than prepared to catch hell over this pick.  Maia is a world champion BJJ...whatever.  Who from Brazil is not a world champion in BJJ.  Everyone has heard at least fifteen different world champions that have competed in UFC, but the fact is that being great in BJJ, although it helps in getting wins doesn't make you invincible.  Nate Quarry will use a combination of great take down defense, and stand up to test out Maia's chin.

Quarry, by decision

Gabriel Gonzaga versus Josh Hendricks

I for one hope Gonzaga comes out as the beast we have seen in the past.  Gonzaga has been known for pulling off the big win against Cro Cop, and I am hoping to see more of this guy fighting like he did that night, and not like he did against Couture.  That being said Hendricks is no Randy Couture.

Gonzaga, by submission

Amir Sadollah versus Nick Cantone

Amir Sadollah...his technique looks so weak when he is fighting.  in TUF he looked like he was on his way to getting beaten so many times, but he is like one of the Diaz brothers in the aspect, that no matter how bad it looks for him...he comes out with a win, and that's what really matters.  I do think if Amir does lose it will definitely be by decision.  I don't see anyone stopping this guy, but he is beatable.

Amir Sadollah, by submission

Kenny Florian versus Joe Stevenson

While I am a Kenny Florian fan, I think Joe's strength may be a little too much for Kenny here.  I am not sure if Joe can finish off Kenny, but I do think he can take the win by decision.  This is kinda one of those fights that I don't care who wins, because I like both fighters.

Joe Stevenson, by split decision

Randy Couture versus Brock Lesnar

I can see Randy using the stay back and let Lesnar make a mistake game plan.  With Lesnar's brainless bull charges, that will definitely come up short, and his Bob Sapp like right hand that everyone is so impressed with, I think Randy will definitely be able to exploit Lesnar's complete lack of skills other than being a collegiate wrestler.  Natural talent can only take you so far in this game... unfortunately all of the McMahoniacs have been pumping up this disgrace, and now we get to spend our hard earned money on a PPV where Lesnar is going to have trouble actually throwing a punch, instead of faking and stomping on the ground real hard.  I just watched the fight with Frank Mir Wednesday night on Unleashed, and I am still not impressed...His ground and pound, while it had power behind the punches, looked like a little kid fighting with his school yard play mate over the swing.  I also watched closely as Mir gazed intently at Lesnar's leg, and Lesnar just let him have it.  I am not impressed with Lesnar, and I won't be until he beats someone that has a better than average submission game.
