TUF 13 Finale Results: What's Next for Clay Guida and the Winners?

Sean SmithJun 6, 2011

Clay Guida wasn't the only fighter looking to make an impression at The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) 13 Finale. Several young TUF participants and fresh faces in the UFC were looking to earn a long-term spot in the organization.

The fighters on this list were all able to come away victorious and will all see another day in the UFC. Now, these fighters will sit and wait for a call from UFC matchmaker Joe Silva to find out who their next opponent will be.

Let's take a look at some of the most likely opponents for each of the winners from Saturday's event.

Reuben Duran

1 of 11

Fight Result

Reuben Duran defeated Francisco Rivera by submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:57 of the third round.

After giving Takeya Mizugaki a scare in his UFC debut with a split decision loss, Duran bounced back with a submission victory that may have salvaged his career with the UFC.

What's Next?

Let's give Duran a fight with Michael McDonald. Despite earning a split decision victory, McDonald's stock took a hit in his last fight.

Matching these two rising talents against each other would allow the winner to show he is ready to take on bantamweight contenders.

Scott Jorgensen

2 of 11

Fight Result

Scott Jorgensen defeated Ken Stone by knockout (punch) at 4:01 of the first round.

Jorgensen showed incredible power by knocking out Stone with ground-and-pound from within his opponent's full guard.

The win provided a reminder of why Jorgensen had been given a title shot in his last fight and showed the UFC that he should only be competing with fellow contenders at this point in his career.

What's Next?

Let's have Jorgensen serve as a test for Demetrious Johnson. Johnson is coming off of a win over former WEC Bantamweight Champion Miguel Torres and is making a push for a shot at the UFC belt.

If Johnson can prove himself against a powerful wrestler in Jorgensen, he might be ready for a shot at the UFC Bantamweight Championship.

Clay Harvison

3 of 11

Fight Result

Clay Harvison defeated Justin Edwards by split decision (29-28, 29-28, 28-29).

After clearly losing the first round to Edwards, Harvison displayed a lot of guts and determination in earning a come-from-behind victory to guarantee himself another fight in the UFC.

Harvison is a likeable character and exciting fighter to watch. If he is able to sustain any type of success in the UFC, Harvison has the potential to become a fan favorite.

What's Next?

A fight with fellow TUF Season 13 competitor Chris Cope could make for an exciting matchup. Both Harvison and Cope prefer to stand and bang. I don't see either shying away from a stand-up war.

Shamar Bailey

4 of 11

Fight Result

Shamar Bailey defeated Ryan McGillivray by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

A strong welterweight with dominant wrestling, Bailey could have a bright future with the UFC if he can improve his conditioning and striking.

Although he controlled McGillivray with takedowns for the entire fight, Bailey appeared to run out of gas very early on. His wrestling can help him push through exhaustion against low-level fighters, but Bailey will need to be able to go hard for three rounds when he faces stiffer competition.

What's Next?

Bailey's first non-TUF test could come against the winner of a fight that will take place later this month between Matt Brown and Rich Attonito.

Both fighters are currently near the bottom of the welterweight division, and a fight against Attonito would make for an interesting bout between two former TUF participants from different seasons.

George Roop

5 of 11

Fight Result

George Roop defeated Josh Grispi by technical knockout (body punch) at 3:14 of the third round.

Despite being the heavy underdog heading into the fight, Roop stayed on his feet long enough to hand Grispi a second straight deflating loss.

The win put Roop back on track after he was completely outclassed against Mark Hominick in his previous fight.

What's Next?

Roop's next fight may come against the winner of a fight to take place at this weekend's UFC 131 between Michihiro Omigawa and Darren Elkins.

The winner of this fight would be in a similar position as Roop, as Omigawa and Elkins are both coming off of losses to high-profile fighters in their last appearances.

Jeremy Stephens

6 of 11

Fight Result

Jeremy Stephens defeated Danny Downes by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-26, 30-26).

Stephens put on a dominant performance in this fight, but Downes showed amazing toughness in refusing to be finished.

Stephens hit Downes with some big shots and nearly tore his arm off with a kimura, but Downes survived long enough to hear Bruce Buffer read the judges' lopsided scores.

What's Next?

Let's give Stephens the winner of a bout between Donald Cerrone and Vagner Rocha, which will happen at UFC 131 later this week.

Chris Cope

7 of 11

Fight Result

Chris Cope defeated Chuck O'Neil by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Cope showed marked improvement since his appearance on TUF. Cope picked O'Neil apart on his feet and showed a diversity of technique with spinning back kicks.

Cope's grinding style isn't an ideal matchup for anyone, so he could have a solid career in the UFC if he continues to progress at his current pace.

What's Next?

As I said earlier, a matchup with Clay Harvison would make for an exciting stand-up brawl.

Kyle Kingsbury

8 of 11

Fight Result

Kyle Kingsbury defeated Fabio Maldonado by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).

It was far from pretty, but Kingsbury found a way to come away with a victory against Maldonado. Athleticism and Kingsbury's knees from the clinch turned out to be the determining factor in the fight.

Kingsbury paid a price for clinching with Maldonado, though, as the Brazilian delivered several powerful body shots and landed a strike that caused Kingsbury's eye to swell shut.

What's Next?

After Krzysztof Soszynski and Igor Pokrajac throw down at UFC 131, the winner would make for an interesting opponent for Kingsbury.

Like Kingsbury, both fighters are still trying to break out of the lower-level competition in the UFC's light heavyweight division.

Ed Herman

9 of 11

Fight Result

Ed Herman defeated Tim Credeur by technical knockout (punches) at 0:48 of the first round.

After recovering from a knee injury for more than two years, Herman returned to the Octagon with a bang by dropping Credeur with an uppercut.

The win may have salvaged Herman's UFC career, but his focus now should be on staying healthy and picking up a few more wins.

What's Next?

Herman said after his win that he had hoped Kendall Grove won his last fight so that it could set the stage for a rematch of a great fight in the finals of a middleweight tournament during Season 3 of TUF.

Since Grove lost his last fight, let's see how Herman fares against the fighter who defeated Grove, Tim Boetsch.

Clay Guida

10 of 11

Fight Result

Clay Guida defeated Anthony Pettis by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27).

Guida made a significant step toward earning a lightweight title shot with his win over former WEC Lightweight Champion Pettis. Guida's pace and conditioning can cause problems for any fighter he meets.

Despite the huge win, the plethora of contenders in the lightweight division makes it seem almost necessary for Guida to get another win over a legitimate contender in order to prove he is the most worthy lightweight of receiving a title shot.

What's Next?

A fight against the winner of an August bout between Jim Miller and Ben Henderson seems like the most likely scenario for Guida, but a rematch with Gilbert Melendez would be an excellent way for the Strikeforce Lightweight Champion to make his UFC debut.

Tony Ferguson

11 of 11

Fight Result

Tony Ferguson defeated Ramsey Nijem by knockout (punches) at 3:54 of the first round.

Despite coming from a wrestling background, Ferguson ran through his competition with striking on his way to become The Ultimate Fighter. Throughout Season 13 of TUF, Ferguson was undoubtedly the most talented fighter in the house.

Now, it is time to find out how Ferguson matches up against some of the most talented welterweights in the world.

What's Next?

Let's bring Ferguson along slowly with a fight against Sean Pierson or fellow TUF alumni Kyle Watson.
