Who's the No. 1 Bad Ass Sprint Cup Driver You'd Want in a Bar Room Brawl?

Russell SchmidtJun 2, 2011

You're in a strange city, and you walk into a bad part of town biker bar. What NASCAR driver(s) would you want to have with you?

Of course, you'd want the biggest and most bad ass driver you could get your hands on.

Let's go down the current list of drivers in NASCAR Sprint Cup competition.

Starting from the bottom of the current points standings, Derrike Cope would be too frail and too old to make much of a difference for you to escape the wrath of those around you.

Scott Riggs wouldn't be a bad choice, but I'd prefer somebody with more beef and more attitude.

Kevin Conway would not be much of a help. He can't even deal with the likes of Robby Gordon in a friendly conversation in the pits without calling the cops.

Todd Bodine wouldn't be bad, especially coming from the short tracks of the Northeast, but I'd still like more attitude and more height.

Joe Nemechek, Dennis Setzer, Robert Richardson, Scott Wimmer, T'J. Bell and David Starr just wouldn't cut the mustard.

Hermie Sadler may be short, but the stocky driver/commentator has some wrestling background that might just come in handy.

Mike Bliss and Travis Kvapil are both nice guys and competent drivers, but I don't see them as much of a backup.

Mike Skinner could be among the top 10 to mix it up in a pinch and at the drop of a hat. Decent size as well.

Landon Cassill is too young and too small to make a difference. We'll send him home early.

Steven Wallace isn't a bad size, has the right attitude to stand up to someone but is just too young.

Ricky Stenhouse has come of age to drive a racecar, but the diminutive driver just couldn't stand up to a crowd of bad boys.

Trevor Bayne is a decent height and weight, but his recent mysterious condition would negate his help.

Steve Park is certainly used to the short track after race hassles and could be an asset.

Brian Keselowski and David Stremme could help carry some of the others away.

Michael Waltrip is the tallest guy in the pits and has been for many years. If height and some weight would help, sign him up. As far as bad ass attitude however...it's just not there.

Michael McDowell is a good size, age and weight. Not sure about a nasty attitude, but we'll include him among the top 10.

J.J. Yeley, Tony Raines and Andy Lally are all nice guys and would be categorized as spectators.

Terry Labonte, Ken Schrader and Bill Elliott are great guys and legends in their own right, but their bad ass days have passed.

Now Robby Gordon is always ready to mix it up on or off the track. Sign him up.

Casey Mears, Dave Blaney, David Gilliland, Regan Smith, Brian Vickers, Bobby Labonte and Jamie McMurray are all competent drivers but are all either too nice or too small to make a difference in a bar room brawl. I'll pass.

Now I think Brad Keselowski and David Reutimann might surprise you as to their fighting prowess, especially quiet David.

Joey Logano certainly has the height and even a decent attitude, but fighting with the body of a praying mantis would only add to the injured list.

Jeff Burton and Jeff Gordon couldn't even kick each other's ass last year, so we'll leave them home.

Martin Truex Jr. and Paul Menard have the right size and attitude to help those around them, especially Jersey boy Truex coming from the short tracks.

Kasey Kahne might be good to bring as a distraction but not much of a fighter.

I believe David Ragan and Marcos Ambrose would provide some good backup but not a real bad ass attitude to kick some tail.

Juan Montoya could definitely light up most any fight with his, "I dun care" attitude. Not tall, but a scrapper.

Mark Martin and A.J. Allmendinger are fit enough to do some battle but just not nasty enough. Mark could always hit them with his AARP card.

Danny Hamlin has the right "go get 'em" attitude, but is just not big and bad enough.

I wouldn't mind having Greg Biffle as a backup despite being vertically challenged.

We'll have to talk about Ryan Newman and Tony Stewart in the same conversation. Both have the right attitude to drop the gloves and come a running. They're both not tall but have some beef to land some stars and birdies.

Clint Bowyer comes from the dirt track ranks and has been in more than one after race incident. Good size, good attitude...sign 'em up.

Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch are more of the lover boy category than fighters.

Kyle Busch likes to stir stuff up, but one intense look, let alone a punch, would flatten this twig-like, rat-faced driver.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. would be more of a spectator than ruin his hair or clothing.

Jimmie Johnson could be a cheerleader in a fight situation, but not a fighter.

Kevin Harvick throws a mean look, can jump cars in a single bound, but we've never really seen this second place driver actually fight. I will say, he does not seem to back away from a fight, especially with his crew around him.

And finally, current points leader Carl Edwards. At 6'1" tall and 185-190 pounds with a steady diet of toughness and energy, sign him up as the No. 1 choice as Mr. Bad Ass. As we've seen over the past five years, this guy is not afraid to back up his beliefs, on or off the racetrack.

I would also add some drivers to come out of retirement and despite their age, would be a help in a pinch. Those being Ricky Rudd, Buddy Baker and Cale Yarborough, all of whom have shown the 'right stuff' when it comes to fighting.

So, who did I leave off and who would you want with you on the wrong side side of town. Drop me a line.
