10 Fantasy Football DUDS For the First Half Of 2008

Lee JohnsonOct 22, 2008

Most Fantasy Football leagues end their regular season around week 13 or week 14.  This puts us at the midway point in the season, right?  Let’s have a position by position look, including Individual Defensive Players, (IDP)  at Team DUD 2008 up to this point.  Here is the Nightmare Team up to Week Eight of the NFL Season.

TEAM DUD:

QB: Carson Palmer, Bengals

Sure injuries happen.  Does not take the sting away from the guy that drafted Carson Palmer as his QB.  Yeah, Tom Brady hurt worse but at least Palmer isn’t out for the season.  Those guys that drafted Brady were able to move on with their season.  Palmer owners who drafted him don’t know what they should do.  Is he playing?  Is he sitting?  Should I trade him?  Can I get anything for him?  Hopefully Palmer owners were able to latch on to one of the weekly new starting QB’s that pop up around the league.

RB: Joseph Addai, Colts

Addai was a Top Five pick in most fantasy football drafts.  There was even talk in some “expert” circles of him being a Top Two pick this season.  Ouch..sorry to hear that Mr. I Drafted Addai, guy.  You couldn’t have known.  Having a quick look at the running back leaders in a league that has the usual 6 points per TD, 1 point per 10 yards, and a .5 PPR, Addai falls in at #40.  Not overall…the #40 Running Back!  We would like to think that the planets would line back up and the Colts would return to being the fantasy players we know and love.  May just be too late for those that used that early pick on Joseph Addai.

RB: Larry Johnson, Chiefs

Some fantasy football drafters were ecstatic to swipe Larry Johnson up in the second round.  “Champ-ion-ship” they say.  They have been rewarded with inconsistency.  Not only from Johnson himself but from Coach Edwards.  Herm said that the Chiefs were dedicating the season to getting a look at the younger guys they had, including rookie Jammal Charles.  Johnson owners sink…then he has his best game in quite some time…owners rejoice.  Then Johnson bombs again…then smacks a woman around…now suspended by the Chiefs for a game.  Johnson may have another big game, if he does you may want to see what you can get for him.

WR: Randy Moss, Patriots

We expected Randy Moss to take a drop in production when tom Brady went down.  Not this bad though.  In most Fantasy Football Drafts, Moss went in the late first round, maybe early second round.  That hurts.  Last week he had his best game yet but there have been more bad games than good.  We all know that the bread and butter for Moss is for someone to launch the ball down field.  It isn’t happening and he is not getting his yards either.  Three out of six games have been under 30 yards…and those three games came with no TD’s.  Yikes.

WR: Chad Johnson, Bengals

There are a lot of fantasy owners that were done with Johnson before draft time this year.  Some could not pass on the talent of, if not Johnson, Carson Palmer getting him the ball.  He fell to the third round in many drafts but that still hurts considering that is still in the neighborhood of being a fantasy team’s #1 WR.  At this point, no 100 yard games, only two games over 50 yards (57, 52) and only two TD’s.  It’s safe to say that even on this bad fantasy team this season that TJ Housyourwidereceiver is the guy to look to.

TE: Jeremy Shockey, Saints

It really was a perfect marriage.  A TE that can catch the ball, is a monster after the catch, loves to hit, meets a coach who had coached him before, worked with Jason Witten, runs one of the most potent offenses in the NFL.  Problem?  You don’t get points being on the stationary bike on the sidelines.  Shockey was not a real high pick but a disappointment for those that looked forward to him joining the Saints offense.  Back after three weeks off due to injury maybe we see a decent second half of 2008.

DT/ST: San Diego Chargers

The Chargers DT/ST are not terrible.  BUT, compared to their draft position as far as
Defense/Special Teams, they are a big bust this season.  They started coming off the boar at an average of the 8.06 position at Fantasy Football Calculator.

Individual Defensive Players (IDP)

LB:  Jordan Dizon, Lions

Every season it seems a rookie linebacker steps up and takes the IDP world by storm.  This is personal I guess.  At the time of many of my IDP Dynasty league rookie drafts Dizon was the guy being projected to be that LB this season.  There are many of you that are likely reading his name are wondering who I’m talking about.  Exactly.

DL: Jason Taylor, Redskins

Who would have thought that sack master Jason Taylor would be sitting with a grand total of…one.  When his top game consists of two tackles, two assists, and one sack, there is a wonder he even makes starting lineups.  D-Line is not that important of a position in most IDP leagues but owners thought they were getting  an advantage in the matchup department with Taylor and are not getting it.

DB: Adrian Wilson, Cardinals

Wilson has been a top D-Back IDP player for a few years.  He likely went as one of the top D-Backs in your IDP draft, right?  Hard to swallow the points put up so far this season by Wilson.  Hammy issues have slowed him down and even caused him to be taken out on passing downs.  No good for your IDP squad.  This should turn itself around, hopefully after the bye week.  Wilson could be a guy you can get in a trade for a low cost, might wanna look into that.
