Elite XC Is Gone! What About Their Fighters?
By now we all know Elite XC is done for,out of commission, closed,(insert here). That still leaves good fighters wondering what to do next.Names like Eddie Alvarez,Nick Diaz,KJ Noons,Robbie Lawler,Jake Shields,Wilson Reis,Kimbo Slice,Seth Petruzelli, and Joey Villasenor in limbo.
What to do next, I'm sure a handful will be picked up by the UFC,but what does that mean for the ones not taken?
Eddie Alvarez a top contender who is considered a top 10 LW fighter. He will more than likely be picked up by the UFC,not a household name but a very good talent,he has a bright future. The UFC would be dumb not to attempt to sign him.
Wilson Reis is the EXC bantamweight champion, the WEC will look into him as an opponent for Miguel Torres.Assuming that Torres wins his scheduled bout with Manny Tapia,Reis would be next.
KJ Noons was the lightweight champion, but was stripped due to not fighting, will be looked at by many organizations, but i think will ultimately sign with Dream or Affliction. He will be pursued by the UFC,but i don't think he will end up there.
Nick Diaz who has a scheduled lightweight championship bout will be picked up by the UFC. Mainly because his brother Nate is already in with the UFC. Nick wouldn't fight his brother so he will more than likely move up to 170, and try to contend with the welterweights one last time.
Jake Shields is one of my favorite prospects from EXC,i think he will give the top welterweights some trouble in the UFC.He is a well rounded fighter with wins over Carlos Condit and Yushim Okami. He will, I'm almost certain go with the UFC,but hey i've been wrong before.
Robbie Lawler has a history with the UFC,and connections to Matt Hughes. He will, with no question go to the UFC. I also think he will get a shot at Anderson Silva as his first fight in the UFC. Robbie Lawler is a polished striker, and pretty good on the ground as well. His Future is bright!
Antonio Silva is the HW champion, and though i don't know much about him, with a record of 11-1,he could definitely be a force in the HW division of the UFC. He is 29 years old and has 8 knockouts on his resume, this along with a win over former HW champion Ricco Rodriguez. This could be enough for him to contend in the UFC.
Murilo Rua is the older brother of Shogun Rua,a UFC LHW/HW contender. He is also the former EXC middleweight champion.Rua is also Pride FC veteran and boasts a record of 16-9,with losses to Dan Henderson,Ricardo Arona,Quinton Jackson,Paulo Filho, and Robbie Lawler. I don't think he is UFC ready, but he will be good for a smaller organization.
Kimbo Slice who i think is average at best, would just be used as a marketing ploy for an organization like Affliction. They may sign him and put him up against garbage opponents to build him up. Maybe throw him to the wolves make him fight an opponent who has a winning record,or something, but he will never see a UFC octagon. He has about 2 more years left of his "MMA" career, but hey, i would love to see Fedor Beat the living SH!% out of him. But that's just me. :->
The Ladies Division may be a little harder, but will eventually find a place. With who? I can't even begin to think, but they will find a home. Affliction might be a possibility,to contend with the UFC,and get ratings. Gina Carano is the marquee name for women's MMA,and would be a great asset to any organization. But i think takers will be harder to find than most think.
Other Fighters
Seth Petruzelli (The guy who knocked out Kimbo) will probably be in limbo for a while, but may have struck gold in the form of a knockout, and be pursued by every organization. Only time will tell.
Joey Villasenor a middleweight contender, who was knocked out by Robbie Lawler in 22 seconds. He will be most likely fighting in a Japanese Promotion called World Victory Road, they are an upstart company with a bright future. He may only stay there to make his name known, but he will most likely end up there.
