Dana White Announces Coaches for Next Ultimate Fighter
For quite some time now, the hot topic around the Ultimate Fighting Championship was who coach the 14th season of the reality TV show The Ultimate Fighter.
Back in the spring, it looked as if the two coaches would most likely be top middleweight contenders Michael Bisping and Chael Sonnen.
Sonnen caused an uproar after he voiced his opinion about the Brit after his controversial victory over Jorge Rivera, where the Brit not only threw an illegal knee at a downed Rivera, but also allegedly spit towards his cornerman at the end of the fight.
Sonnen wrote a letter to UFC matchmaker Joe Silva, asking for the opportunity to fight "Michael Spitsping" so that he could put him in his place.
When asked about Sonnen as a possible next opponent, Bisping was a little hesitant about going from one trash talker to the next, but welcomed the challenge.
However, with Sonnen's issues with the California State Athletic Commission, he will not be able to re-apply for his license before taping begins.
Bisping will still be given the chance to be a coach on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter, as it was revealed today by UFC President Dana White himself to the Underground.
Going into the show, Bisping has plenty of TUF experience under his belt, as he was the season three winner under coach Tito Ortiz, and would later go on to coach against Dan Henderson in the "United States vs United Kingdom" season.![]()
This time around, Bisping's challenger on the other side will be none other than Jason "Mayhem" Miller.
Miller, the former host of MTV's Bully Beatdown, recently signed with the UFC after he was banned from all CBS and Showtime broadcasts for his involvement in the brawl that occurred after former Strikeforce middleweight champion Jake Shields defeated Dan Henderson in Nashville.
Miller entered the cage after Shields' victory and asked for a rematch, only to be answered by shoving and punching from Shields' training partners Nick and Nate Diaz.
Mayhem was originally slated to face Aaron Simpson at UFC 132 in his first fight back in the UFC, but with today's announcement, Simpson will most likely receive a new opponent.
Bisping and Miller should no doubt cause a lot of fireworks during the taping of the show.
Miller has been known to get under other fighter's skin and from what we saw at UFC 127, Bisping can sometimes let his temper get the best of him.
The next season should be an interesting one and a change of pace from the current season, where coaches Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos have not only cooperated, but they have barely said a word to each other.
Even though the two are no longer fighting due to Lesnar's continuing battle with diverticulitis, fans still want to see a good rivalry brewing between coaches during the show.
The last season to have a heated coaches rivalry was when Chuck Liddell coached against Tito Ortiz in season 11, and Quinton "Rampage" and Rashad Evans before that.
TUF alum Josh Koscheck tried to get something going throughout season 12, but UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre would not budge.
The next installment will most likely involve Miller trying to aggravate Bisping at all costs, so ratings should be higher than previous seasons. They don't call him "Mayhem" for nothing.
The next season of The Ultimate Fighter will feature for the first time featherweights and bantamweights and is set to start filming soon.
The two coaches will later meet in the octagon to settle their differences, but a date and event have yet to be decided.
