UFC Champions: Power Ranking Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva and Each UFC King
A recent string of injuries across the board has shifted the entire UFC title landscape. Champions Cain Velasquez, Jon Jones, Frankie Edgar, and now Jose Aldo have all been hit with shoulder, hand, back / rib, and vertebrae problems, respectively. Add to that, the shake-ups in the Heavyweight number one contender bout due to Brock Lesnar's diverticulitis and in the Lightweight division given number one contender Gray Maynard's knee injury, and the UFC title picture might be looking very different not too soon from now. Did we forget to mention that Middleweight champion Anderson Silva has a date with Yushin Okami in Rio this August?
7. Cain Velasquez
1 of 7
Current UFC Heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez has yet to make his first title defense against would be number one contender Junior Dos Santos, due to a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Velasquez expects to make his return at UFC 136 in Austin this October, against the winner of UFC 131's number one contender bout between Shane Carwin and Junior Dos Santos.
6. Jon Jones
2 of 7
After dismantling former champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, back in March at UFC 128, Jon Jones hit a bump in the road with hand ligament injury. The injury pulled "Bones" out of his first title defense against Rashad Evans, but did lead to a Twitter trash talk war, building up some anticipation for their fight while Evans takes on prospect Phil Davis and Jones waits for an opponent. Until then, Jones is waiting to make a successful defense of the Light-Heavyweight championship.
5. Dominick Cruz
3 of 7
Current Bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz has already made two title defenses, but this July at UFC 132, he'll be headlining his first event under the UFC banner against the only man to defeat him, Urijah Faber.
4. Frankie Edgar
4 of 7
Frankie Edgar made his first successful title defense against B.J. Penn back at UFC 118, but was unable to put away number one contender Gray Maynard at UFC 125, resulting in a draw. Now, injury has sidelined them both while they wait to do battle in their third fight against each other.
3. Jose Aldo
5 of 7
After successfully defending the Featherweight title in a tough fight against Mark Hominick at UFC 129 in Toronto, Jose Aldo was expected to make his next defense against undefeated Chad Mendes. However, due to undisclosed reasons, not due to his vertebrae injury, Rani Yahya will be replacing him.
2. Georges St-Pierre
6 of 7
The reigning Welterweight champion made yet another successful title defense in Toronto at UFC 129 against Jake Shields. However despite cleaning out almost the entire division, he has chosen to remain at 170, forgoing, at least for now, a bout with pound for pound king Anderson Silva. If "Rush" chooses to remain at Welterweight still, the most intriguing might come from his Strikeforce counterpart, Nick Diaz
1. Anderson Silva
7 of 7
UFC Middleweight champion Anderson Silva sits at the top of the list after a devastating knockout of Vitor Belfort at UFC 126 in a title defense. Now "The Spider" will be able to avenge his last loss, a 2006 disqualification to number one contender Yushin Okami. If successful, a super-fight with Georges St. Pierre might be all that is left for him.
