Pro-Wrestlers Cross-Over To Movies and Entertainment—Good Idea?

Joe Burgett Oct 20, 2008

As you have seen especially in the WWE, more and more wrestlers are crossing over into the movie industry, but is it a good idea? For some it is great but for others not so much.

We have seen more and more as of late but wrestling really got popular through movies. Remember this guy uh..whats his name? Hulk Hogan. He was really one of the first to cross over into the movie industry and have success.

Roddy Piper did it, but really had some not so good movies, trust me I've seen them. Some people don't remember that Mr. T started out in wrestling too, before his big role in the A-Team way back when.

But after that there was really no one who took over until a guy named The Rock came along, full of charisma, and wonderful on the mic. He could get crowds into a huge riot or calm the down, could make them cheer or make them boo at will.

Not many superstars now can do that, of course there are a few obviously. Stone Cold has had some good success in the film industry. But really got his name in wrestling, both him and The Rock were in great feuds that lasted a very long time, but both are well known now in Hollywood.

Which gave Vince McMahon the idea to make WWE Studios, which he would film many action moves mainly, and it has produced some major hits since the making of it. Movies such as The Condemned that starred Stone Cold.

It made The Marine, starring John Cena. A Marine 2 without Cena is in the works currently. And they are set to have a couple new movies out in 2009. Movies like 12 Rounds, Marine 2, and Journeyman, to name a few.

Which got me to thinking, if so many great stars are out in movies, does that help the WWE in a way? Actually it dramatically does. WWE Studios was made because of the massive profit.

If they were to make the movies and all of the stuff was in house, they could make over a billion a year, depending on the movies success during the monthes in theaters and after in DVD/Blueray sales. And much more products involving the movie.

And also it makes the wrestlers in the movie extremely popular, which gets them more main event matches, sooner or later gets them the WWE Championship, as long as it draws crowds it doesn't matter in the star of a film holds the title a little after the movie is over.

As long as it makes money, John Cena can be champ as much as possible. Wrestlers of all kinds are getting into movies, Triple H and Big Show are starring in a couple new WWE Films coming up.

This would be the first movie for Triple H as a main star in a movie, and the first for Big Show. The Great Khali for example has not been in any WWE Films movies, but he has been in a few non-WWE related films, which the WWE makes a profit on since he is in the Untied States working for them.

If you think about it, the WWE is in entertainment not just because they have talented actors, but because it makes money, and Vince McMahon loves that, so as long as the Movies sell as they have been the last few times out we may see WWE Films at the top of Hollywood.

But what do you think about WWE Superstars cross-over into Movies and Entertainment?
