NFL's Week Seven Recaps: Dallas, We Have a Problem!

Football ManiaxsOct 19, 2008

By Wayne Lin

Tennessee continued their defensive dominance and showed why they're the class in the AFC, remaining undefeated, and what happened to the Cowboys? In Texas, besides Houston...Dallas has a problem! Actually more than one...

The "Surging" Rams have put together a nice two-win streak and the Bears dared to score a whopping 48 points on the reeling Vikings.

Dallas @ St. Louis

Jim Haslett has the Rams playing better, and it showed today against a battered Dallas team. The Cowboys were playing without Tony Romo, Felix Jones, and Pacman Jones. Terrell Owens and new acquisition Roy Williams (no stats) were non-factors in a game where the stats were virtually even, but the score didn’t indicate such.

St. Louis and Dallas had 18 first downs. Dallas had 341 total yards and the Rams had 325, and they both had 59 plays. The only problem was the Rams had Steven Jackson, who is finally looking like Steven Jackson.

Jackson had three rushing touchdowns and shredded a Dallas defense that was in the top 10 in the league. He rushed for 160 yards. With injuries and suspensions in the Dallas defense, the Rams took advantage. They are now winners of two straight.

Though Dallas sacked Marc Bulger five times, the Rams still showed defiance. Rookie receiver Donnie Avery scored his first career touchdown and also dropped a pass that could have gone for a long TD in the first half.

Cowboys' DeMarcus Ware has now recorded a sack in 10 consecutive games, which ties the NFL record. Brad Johnson threw a TD pass to rookie TE Martellus Bennett, but also accounted for three key interceptions that swung the game in St. Louis' favor. Marion Barber reached the century mark in rushing yards and found the pay dirt early in the game for the team's only lead of the afternoon.

Oshiomogho Atogwe had two interceptions and Will Witherspoon had one interceptions for the Rams. The Cowboys did show some moxie with all the players out of their lineup, but not enough.

Tennessee @ Kansas City

Chris Johnson didn't disappoint, with 168 rushing yards and a score, but LenDale White stole the show with three scores of his own and 149 yards on the ground in the dismantling of the Chiefs, who allowed 332 rushing yards on the game.

Kerry Collins only managed 123 yards passing, but it was enough to route the lowly Chiefs, who now go to 1-5 on the season. There wasn’t much to talk about in the way of Titan receivers. Bo Scaife led the way with 48 yards.

Kansas City played all three of their quarterbacks and none did any good in the rout.  Brody Croyle did the best with passing percentage, going 9-for-10, but passed for only 63 yards before getting injured. He is out for the year.

Damon Huard led the Chiefs in passing with 96 yards. The Chiefs still haven’t found an offensive identity and should Huard play below expectations, the Chiefs could pick a quarterback with their first pick.

The running game for the Chiefs also lacked, with 53 yards on the ground. The leading rusher was quarterback Tyler Thigpen with 21 yards and the lone TD. Dwayne Bowe was kept out of the end zone but had 86 yards on the day. TE Tony Gonzalez had a productive day with six receptions for 97 yards.

New Orleans @ Carolina

The question on this day was whether or not New Orleans could win the game they’re supposed to win. Today proved they couldn’t, and with an injury to Reggie Bush, it looks like their chances to win many more went out the window.

Drew Brees didn’t have a touchdown pass, but passed for 231 yards on 22 attempts.  For the most part, the New Orleans offense was dismal, dropping passes and being confused on receiver routes.

The running game sputtered after Reggie Bush was taken out of the game. He had 55 rushing yards before being hurt on the last play of the half. Keep an eye on his status.  Nothing is official, but the Saints will make an announcement later in the day on his status.

Marques Colston returned to the lineup but was non-existent all day, as he recorded no stats. Jeremy Shockey also suit up for the game after missing the last four, managing a modest 50 yards on five catches.

Carolina is an up-and-down team; however, today, they found themselves bouncing back nicely from a crushing defeat last week to Tampa Bay. Carolina played injury free, and unleashed a bevy...
