Bernard Hopkins Will "Execute" George Foreman and Jean Pascal Saturday Night
WBC and IBO light heavyweight king Jean Pascal will again defend his crowns against the legendary Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins Saturday night in Montreal, Canada.
Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KOs) battled Hopkins (51-5-2-1, 32 KOs) to a controversial draw in their initial bout on December 18 in Quebec City, Canada.
Despite flooring “B-Hop” in the first and third rounds, Hopkins essentially dominated Pascal for the remainder of their match.
Pascal, who was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti and raised in Quebec, suffered his only loss as a professional to Englishman Carl Froch (27-1, 20 KOs) by unanimous decision in December 2008.
Prior to his prizefight with Hopkins, the reigning titlist had triumphed in five consecutive contests.
Pascal is an extremely talented pugilist and, at only 28, he is capable of commanding the light heavyweight division for years to come.
In a recent interview with Diego Morilla of ESPNdeportes.com, the Canadian bashed Hopkins and expressed confidence that the outcome of this contest will be entirely different.
“Of course I am a better fighter than Bernard Hopkins,” said Pascal, who idolized Roy Jones Jr. as an adolescent.
“I've been to the Olympics, I had a great amateur background, I've been to the Pan Am Games, I've been several times a national champion, I was named the best pound-for-pound fighter in Canada as an amateur, and then I turned pro. So of course I am a better boxer than Bernard. I have more tools than him. But this time I am going to use those tools in the right way at the right time.”
Pascal continued to belittle the ex-convict from the “City of Brotherly Love.”
“My motivation is to close his filthy mouth,” said Pascal.
“Because he has a filthy mouth, he doesn't know how to behave in public, he doesn't know how to talk in public. He's bad for boxing, he is a disgrace for the sport, and I want to send him to the Hall of Fame as soon as possible.”
Roger “Pit” Perron, a longtime respected boxing trainer from Brockton, is hoping Pascal can force Hopkins to finally hang-up his gloves.
“Hopkins is incredibly boring,” said Perron, 74, who currently works as a trainer at Cappiello Brothers Boxing and Training. “Give it up Bernard; you’re 46 years old!”
