California Bears Has To Make Some Changes, Frank Cignetti Is First On List
The first change is to get rid of Frank Cignetti has got to go. He is proving why he never made it in the NFL as a coordinator.
With Arizona getting a huge momentum lift by going ahead by one point—Uh oh! It's panic time for Cignetti, time to abandon the running game. Let's put the ball in the air and have Longshore throw. Bad idea—it turned into an interception because Longshore stared down his receivers.
It wasn't like the Bears were trailing by one in the fourth quater. There was still plenty of time left in the game. The Bears have two talented running backs in Jahvid Best and Shane Vareen. There was no reason on the first play of the drive to throw unless you're taking a shot down the field with a play action pass it wasn't even play action. It was stare at the receiver and throw hoping to get five yards on a pass.
I do realize it's Cignetti's first season calling plays for the Bears but it has come to an end. Jeff Tedford needs to go back and start calling the plays because Cignetti is proving why he never succeeded with the San Francisco 49ers unless you mean making the team worse.
I don't even understanding when it's a 15 point game with a couple minutes left in the 3rd quarter to abandon the run completely. I mean Jahvid Best already took a hand off 67 yards. There you go right back in the game.
The second change that needs to come and has been needing for a while is the defensive side of the ball. In today's game they've allowed a nobody from Arizona who took over for Grigsby to go well over 100 yards and score three TD's.
The capper of the horrible defensive play calling by Bob Gregory came on a second down and around 12 play. It was as plain as day that Arizona was running the football and instead of being aggressive and getting after the runner it doesn't happen and he ends up on the 4 yard line.
Bear fans are getting sick of the bend but not break startegy because it doesn't work. Especially when a team is trailing. The Bears do no utilize their biggest strength and that is their linebackers. They aren't getting to the qb they aren't getting sacks they rarely force turnovers.
From most games it doesn't seem that Gregory makes any kind of adjustments. I mean sending only three and dropping eight into coverage should only be done if you're trying to prevent a hail marry. Most times teams are not trying to heave the ball down the field unless it's the end of the game or the end of the half.
