Shane Carwin: Punching His Way to Greatness

Mike LeanzaOct 18, 2008

That guy you see above is Sahne Carwin. I'm still wondering how I forgot him when listing the scariest looking guys in MMA. At a staggering 6'4" and weighing in at the maximum of 265 pounds, Shane has the frame of a champion, not to mention the guy is pretty cut. I know frame doesn't mean anything in MMA (Hong Man Choi), but this guy has the game to go behind it.

Shane Carwin has fought 10 times in the last three years since entering the sport of MMA. In those 10 fights, he has spent 673 seconds fighting. That is about 11.5 minutes. What is his record you ask? 10-0.

He has finished every single fight he has been in in the first round. Only one has gone over the two minute mark, and that was his pro debut—but don't worry, he finished that one, too.

Shane entered the octagon for the first time fighting on the undercard and finishing Christian Wellisch by KO in, get ready, 44 seconds. He showed everyone that saw that fight how dominant he is capable of being by running threw a UFC fighter with a 10-3 record.

At UFC 89, Shane Carwin again had the "pleasure" of fighting on the undercard against 4-0 Neil Wain. The fight took place in the UK, which happens to be the hometown of Wain. Unfortunately for the hometown hero, he was disposed of in under two minutes.

How you ask? Carwin scored an easy takedown from the clinch and fell into side control. From there, Shane easily took full mount and rained down a hail storm on the defenseless Neil Wain until the referee put an end to the storm.

That pretty much sums up Shane Carwin. He goes in, finishes the fight ASAP, and then wipes two beads of sweat off his face that are only there due to the heat of all the lights, gets his paycheck, and goes home.

Shane just plows through any competition put in front of him, and it's a good thing, too because he has no time to spare. At 33 years of age, Shane is behind the eight-ball and needs to prove his dominance in convincing fashion in order to get some attention.

After his latest victory, I think it's time for this guy to get some main-card respect. If not the main card, then let's get somebody above average on the opposite side of the octagon, give Shane he opportunity to earn himself a name win. Who do I have in mind?

Bring in Cain Velasquez. He is also coming off of two straight first-round finishes by TKO and needs to be given some respect. Both of these guys are undefeated, hold two finishes in the octagon, and have never gone to the second round of a fight. Put these guys together and you're looking at Fight of the Night honors, and probably a second round. We can cancel out any chances of LnP and pretty much any and all wrestling.

Shane needs somebody good. No more cans, Dana, Carwin is too good for that. Get this guy some attention before it's too late, this guy is a limited time offer, cash in or you're going to be left with an expired product that you'll just end up throwing out.
