NFL: Unlucky Veteran on All 32 Teams Who Could Get Cut Before Training Camp
The problem with the 2011 NFL Lockout is that there are so many unknowns that don’t usually exist in a normal NFL calendar year. Because of this it is very hard for us to predict what may happen or even make an educated guess as to what the future of a certain team or player holds.
Once free agency opens back up things will start to clear up, but the fact still remains that at this point of the NFL lockout situation things are still very murky.
Even in all of the uncertainty though there is one thing that we can tell you about the NFL offseason. If there is training camp, there will always be at least one very unlucky veteran player that gets cut from the team before camp. Sometimes it’s a football decision and other times it is purely a business decision. In some cases a team might even be releasing a fan favorite, or an important presence in the locker room.
Either way it always happens every year.
Here is a list of an unlucky veteran on all 32 teams who could get cut before training camp:
Arizona Cardinals: CB Matthew Ware
1 of 32
With the addition of Patrick Peterson in the Cardinals secondary it is apparent that the Cardinals are starting to make transfuse use and athleticism into their defensive strategy. Ware simply just has too many miles on him at this point.
Atlanta Falcons: WR Brian Finneran
2 of 32
Buffalo Bills: CB Terrence McGee
3 of 32
You’ll notice this phrase to be a trend a lot in the piece, but it’s honestly because it’s true. Buffalo is starting to make the youth movement in their defense and I just don’t think McGee can keep up well enough to reward the guys in front of him.
Baltimore Ravens: RB Willis McGahee
4 of 32
Carolina Panthers: K John Kasay
5 of 32
Kasay has been a trooper his whole career but I just think this season we are going to see him hang em up, so might as well get it out of the way if you are a rebuilding Carolina franchise.
Chicago Bears: QB Todd Collins
6 of 32
The only thing Todd Collins can do nowadays is continue to embarrass himself on the football field. I think you gotta cut this pipe dream short if you are the Bears.
Cincinnati Bengals: QB Carson Palmer
7 of 32
This is the only situation where the veteran would actually be lucky to be cut from his team, considering that he has been asking for it all off season. With the way the Bengals drafted I can see this being a possibility if a trade of some sort can’t be worked out.
Cleveland Browns: QB Jake Delhomme
8 of 32
Ndamukong Suh almost killed this poor man during the preseason last year! I wouldn’t take any chances with Delhomme’s life going into 2011. Seneca Wallace will be a good backup to Colt McCoy
Dallas Cowboys: K Kris Brown
9 of 32
With a pretty promising leg on David Buehler I think it’s about time to let go of the old luggage that Brown is lugging around in Dallas.
Denver Broncos: S Renaldo Hill
10 of 32
The Broncos have an overabundance at safety, so somebody is going to have to go.
Sometimes it literally is that simple.
Detroit Lions: K Jason Hanson
11 of 32
This is a pretty simple move in my opinion, but the problem is that there is so much emotion cluttered into the person of Jason Hanson and this Lions organization. He’s arguably the franchises best player, but right now you have a good kicker in Dave Rayner and can use the roster space.
I wouldn’t call this a cut, but more of a please retire and we will buy you stuff and honor you move.
Green Bay Packers: DE Howard Green
12 of 32
This is a team with a ton of depth defensively, but Green has never played huge factor into much of what the Packers have done. Pretty much they can use his roster spot, and it’s as simple and ruthless as that.
Houston Texans: LB Kevin Bently
13 of 32
The Texans went all defense in the 2011 NFL draft, and they are going to have to clear some space on the depth charts.
Indianapolis Colts: RB Dominic Rhodes
14 of 32
The Colts are trying to re-tool on the fly, and simply put I don’t think there is any room for Rhodes in this backfield.
Jacksonville Jaguars: QB Todd Bouman
15 of 32
Who is Todd Bouman you ask? Exactly my point.
Kansas City Chiefs: WR Terrance Copper
16 of 32
The Chiefs went with a wide receiver in the first round and it is apparent that they are trying to make their offense very dangerous, so I think it’s time for Copper to get out and go fill a role where he is more suited.
Miami Dolphins: RB Ricky Williams
17 of 32
Another mediocre year plus dealing with his shenanigans? I think not…
Minnesota Vikings: TE Jim Kleinsasser
18 of 32
Come ‘on now let’s be real. Kleinsasser is an oldie but a goodie, but he can barely move anymore. Ship has sailed on this Vike.
New England Patriots: TE Alge Crumpler
19 of 32
Crumpler has had an incredible run in the NFL and he will go down as a great, but I think it’s time for the young guys to take over the tight end position in New England.
New Orleans Saints: S Pierson Prioleau
20 of 32
Again, this is simply just getting rid of a guy for the room he creates when he is gone.
New York Giants: DT Rocky Bernard
21 of 32
Bernard’s got to go for the sake of the system. The Giants defense has been great the past few years, and now they have the opportunity to get quicker and more athletic, so make room!
New York Jets: QB Mark Brunell
22 of 32
Brunell should have been out of the league years ago. 18 seasons now! If he didn’t suck he would be right up there in Brett Favre land.
Oakland Raiders: QB J.T. O'Sullivan
23 of 32
Believe me, Oakland has had way too many dead beat quarterbacks on their roster, so getting rid of O’Sullivan would actually help the team. Fill his spot with a need!
Philadelphia Eagles: K David Akers
24 of 32
The Eagles drafted a kicker in the fourth round, so that pretty much spells out everything you need to know about the future in Philly for David Akers.
Pittsburgh Steelers: T Flozell Adams
25 of 32
Adams gave it quite a run during his NFL career, and if anything he should be retired as a Steeler so we can always remember his awesome first time.
San Diego Chargers: S Tyrone Carter
26 of 32
Carter didn’t provide much to the Chargers in 2010, and with the situations they are facing I don’t think they can afford to keep him around.
San Francisco 49ers: QB David Carr
27 of 32
For a team with such rich quarterback history they really let themselves fall as of late, and I can all but guarantee you that nothing regarding David Carr as a quarterback will be beneficial.
Seattle Seahawks: S Lawyer Milloy
28 of 32
Milloy had some great years in this league that should not be forgotten, but as of right now he is next to useless.
St. Louis Rams: DE James Hall
29 of 32
With the new defensive front moving in, it is time to start shipping the old guard out.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: RB Carnell Williams
30 of 32
Cadillac’s time in the bay has come and past, and it would be nice to hope that he can find the spark he once showed us somewhere else.
Tennessee Titans: CB Rod Hood
31 of 32
Hood has dealt with injuries and disappointment his whole career. Not worth your space.
Washington Redskins: DT Albert Haynesworth
32 of 32
I think this is very obvious. Nobody will give you what you want for Haynesworth, and you don’t want him. Just part ways and get rid of the problem in your franchise.
