Brock Lesnar, MMA Fighters & the Action Movie Remakes They Should Star in

Andrew BarrMay 16, 2011

In 2010, Randy Couture and Quinton Jackson both made the move from the Octagon to the big screen.

Couture starred in The Expendables and Quinton Jackson starred in a film adaptation of popular TV show The A Team.

With it becoming a more and more frequent experience to see MMA fighters showing up in movies, it seemed like it would be interesting to think about what action movie remakes MMA fighters could star in.

This list is meant to be fun, so I ignored things like language barriers and the fact that most of these fighters would be terrible actors.

Jeff Monson: Detective John McClane in Die Hard

1 of 11

Jeff Monson in Die Hard was the first thing to came to mind when I started this article.

The man is a total badass, and he kind of looks like Bruce Willis. That's all the qualifications I need.

Although, I'm not sure if Monson, a known anarchist, would want to play a cop.

Lyoto Machida and Quiton Jackson: Lee and Carter in Rush Hour

2 of 11

I realize that Rush Hour leans more towards comedy than it does action, but I had to include it because of how well these two fit the parts.

Quinton Jackson matches up well with the character of James Carter because both are loud and could be considered obnoxious. Both, however, get away with being obnoxious because they're humorous and lovable.

Lyoto matches up well with Lee because they are both more soft spoken and both are versed in karate.

Stefan Struve: Jaws in the Spy Who Loved Me

3 of 11

These two don't look a lot alike facially, but this decision is based on stature.

Stefan Struve is extremely tall and so is Jaws. In terms of physical build, I would say they are also pretty closely matched.

Get Struve a wig and some metal teeth, and I think he would fit the part nicely.

Rich Franklin and Forrest Griffin: Connor and Murphy MacManus in Boondock Saints

4 of 11

The resemblance here isn't uncanny, I know.

This one is based more on personality and relationship than appearances.

Boondock Saints is an action film, but it has comedic elements and a pretty light overall feel. Forrest and Rich are both easy going guys with a good sense of humor. So, I think they fit the movie's style.

Also, the movie is centered around Connor and Murphy MacManus, who are brothers. Forrest and Rich are obviously not brothers, but they are good friends. I think the relationship they have would translate well into the roles of the two brothers.

There is also a decent chance that Forrest and Rich are of Irish descent. I couldn't find out if they were, but they look like they might be.

Georges St. Pierre: Batman in the Dark Knight

5 of 11

Again, this decision has little to do with appearances.

Batman is always the good guy, and GSP is often viewed that way going into his fights—especially his fights with Josh Koscheck and Dan Hardy.

Batman has "rules." He tries as hard as possible to ensure that he does not kill his enemy, but to capture them and put them in jail. This could be considered similar to GSP's style of fighting, as he rarely finishes.

You would need to be versed in martial arts to play the Dark Knight, and it goes without saying that St. Pierre fits that criteria.

Also, GSP wears a lot suits, as does Bruce Wayne.

Chael Sonnen: The Joker or Two Face in the Dark Knight

6 of 11

Chael Sonnen could play either Two Face or the Joker for a few reasons.

Harvey Dent (Two Face) was Gotham's district attorney and a symbol of hope for this city. However, after being corrupted by the Joker, Harvey fell from grace. He ended up going on a murderous rampage and becoming the same as the people he had worked to put behind bars.

Chael Sonnen was pursuing a political career with the state of Oregon, but suffered his own fall from grace when he was busted for money laundering.

Chael and the Joker are similar because they are both completely insane, but also very talented speakers. Because they have "the gift of the gab," both manage to make their insanity sound good. Their message is flawed, but it's fun to listen to.

Junior Dos Santos: The Terminator in the Terminator

7 of 11

This isn't a hard choice to understand.

The Terminator is supposed to be an unstoppable killing machine.

Junior Dos Santos has looked completely unstoppable inside the UFC.

His comprehension of the English language is also probably about the same as Arnold's was when he first played the Terminator.

Fedor Emelianenko: The Emperor in Star Wars

8 of 11

No, it's not just because Fedor's nickname is "The Last Emperor."

The Emperor was an incredibly powerful figure in Star Wars mythology—more powerful even than Darth Vader or Luke Skywalker. However, if you hadn't seen the movies and you saw a photo of the Emperor, you would not guess that he was at all-powerful. He looks remarkably weak, in fact.

Fedor is similar in the sense that doesn't look like a dangerous fighter, or a fighter at all, but for years he was one of the most dominant figures in the sport.

Frankie Edgar: Frodo Baggins in Lord of the Rings

9 of 11

Lord of the Rings isn't exactly an action movie, I know. It's more like fantasy, adventure and then action.

Regardless, there are a lot of similarities between Frankie Edgar and Frodo Baggins.

Both are constantly accomplishing tasks that people don't think they will be able to do. Did people think Frankie Edgar would beat BJ Penn?

No.

Did people think that Frodo would ultimately destroy the ring?

Probably. I mean, you had to assume, right? What kind of movie would it be if he didn't. Talk about anti-climactic. But anyway, the other characters in the movie certainly seemed to doubt Frodo.

Both Frodo and Frankie are tiny individuals with tons of heart.

Brock Lesnar: The Hulk in the Incredible Hulk

10 of 11

Brock Lesnar is a giant human being known for having a short temper...

Need I say more?

Nate Quarry: Neo in the Matrix

11 of 11

I didn't really take any personality or character traits into account for this one.

I've just always thought that Nate Quarry looks a lot like Keanu Reeves.
