College Football Recruiting 2012: 6 Hottest Recruits Racking Up Early Offers

Edwin WeathersbyMay 9, 2011

In every recruiting cycle, we tend to see some elite players rack up a serious amount of offers.

From the totals of 30, 40, 50 or even 60 offers from schools across the country.

Whether schools go after the player because of their obvious talent, location, coaching connection or a certain family member went to the school, each program has its reasons.

While this list does not mean these are the top overall players, these are a couple very elite recruits who seem to be hot names on the recruiting trail and have an excess amount of offers.

6. Kwon Alexander, OLB

1 of 6

Alexander has around 33 total offers from just about every major program on the FBS level.

He's a 6'2", 210 pound OLB prospect that with excellent instincts and tremendous range.

Alexander is a hot name on the trail with offers from the likes of Alabama, USC, Michigan, Florida, Oregon LSU, Georgia and Ohio State.

A decision isn't expected until near signing day.

5. Stefon Diggs, WR

2 of 6

Diggs is another player with over 30 and approaching 40 offers.

He is one of the most exciting players to watch with the football in the country for the 2012 recruiting class. Some even say he can play safety in college, but I like him more as a receiver.

6'1", 190 pounds, Diggs is at his best after the catch. Hands down, he is the the top RAC threat for offensive recruits in the nation.

Some other players may beat Diggs in a straight ahead foot race, but the blend of quickness, explosion, open field vision and run instincts give make Diggs a site to see with the ball.

He has offers from Florida, Michigan, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Michigan, Maryland, UCLA, Oregon and Ohio State among a slew of more.

4. Keith Marshall, RB

3 of 6

Marshall is a 5'11", 185-pound rock toter who has been timed in the 4.3 range in the 40.

He combines excellent play speed with quickness, explosion and vision. Just about every who's who who in college football is after his services.

He's one the very most heavily recruited players in the country. Period. Most recruits start to whittle their lists down to a top five or so school to focus on.

Marshall is still working on honing in on a top 12.

3. Eddie Goldman, DT

4 of 6

Goldman boasts over 40 scholarship offers and is a wanted man on the trail. 6'3" and over 300 pounds, he has a high ceiling as a player and could be special.

Goldman has excellent snap quickness, power and strength to play as a 4-3 DT or a 3-4 NT. I also think he could hold up well as a 3-4 DE. Goldman is still taking the recruiting process in and weighing his options.

Like Marshall, he's still trying to work on whittling his list down to a solid 15 he actually will consider. This is a wide open one and the finish line won't likely appear until NSD 2012.

2. Andrus Peat, OT

5 of 6

Peat is the top OL recruit in the country and has the tools to be an All-American LT in college.

6'7", 280 pounds he combines solid technique with patience, athleticism and natural knee bend. I liken him to USC LT Matt Kalil.

Even Peat will tell you "I have a lot of offers" and chuckle when you ask him how many he has. Last I counted he was at 30, but that was months ago, so 40 or even 50 may be the total these days.

As far as top list or leaders, there are none right now really. Though I think Florida State, USC, Michigan and Nebraska are entrenched firmly in the mix.

1. Dorial Green-Beckham, WR

6 of 6

What program would not want a 6'6", 220-pound receiver with 4.43 speed?

If you know of one, let me know because it seems every program is hot after Green-Beckham.

He has gotten so tired of the constant attention already that he has basically not spoken to the media in months.

His coach and legal guardian has even stated Green-Beckham has soured on the process and attention and therefore likely won't announce a final list until the start of the fall.

This is a wide open race as you can pretty much name a school in FBS and they've more than likely extended Green-Beckham an offer.
