NFL Free Agency Speculation: Could Donovan McNabb Be Solid Stopgap for Titans?
The Tennessee Titans needed to grab a quarterback in this draft, that's a certainty. With Kerry Collins a free agent and Vince Young all but gone, there was no one to be the signal-caller. The Titans had a choice between Blaine Gabbert and Jake Locker when their turn came up.
The Titans ended up selecting Jake Locker eighth overall.
My opinion of both quarterbacks aside (Gabbert's career will be pedestrian and Locker will be out of the league quickly), it was a move the Titans had to make.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Since I don't feel that Locker is ready to take over an NFL offense yet, it may be prudent to grab a veteran quarterback to be a stopgap. There are many of those in free agency this year.
There is a possibility out there that is probably far-fetched, but could happen, and I actually seeing it working out quite well. If the Redskins decide to cut ties with Donovan McNabb and end the contract, then perhaps the Titans should pick him up.
The Titans don't have a lot of passing weapons, but McNabb should not have trouble working with Kenny Britt and company, and having a feature back in Chris Johnson will make things easier as well.
A major question the Titans would have to ask themselves is whether or not McNabb is on the way down career-wise or if his numbers last year were just an anomaly.
I like to think the latter and that he will bounce back, but there's no way of knowing.
Even if McNabb has a pedestrian year for the Titans like he did for the Redskins, I think he's a solid pickup simply because he can mentor Jake Locker and get him NFL ready. He can show him all the ins and outs of the game and help him out big time.
Locker, like many other quarterbacks selected this year, is not someone who can just jump in and play right away. He needs someone to work under to get the best out of him. McNabb also needs somewhere he can start for a year and wrap up his career, so this is the best of both worlds.
The only problem that could occur is the fact that McNabb may want a multi-year deal. If that's the case, then it's probably not worth it to bring him in, since I don't see him accepting a backup role, even if it is more of a mentorship role.
If the Titans do decide against bringing in a veteran quarterback, then it's going to be a very rough first year for Jake Locker.
It's best to ease him along, or else they will be in this same situation in a few years.
