Smart trade for Dallas? You be the judge!

Thomas MorelandOct 14, 2008

The Dallas Cowboys acquired Roy Williams from the  Detroit Lions on Tuesday afternoon October 14th 2008 just  a couple hours before the trade deadline.

Lets look at the pros and cons of this trade and you can decide if it was a good decision by Jerry Jones.

Dallas gave up draft picks in 2009 in the 1st. 3rd. and 6th round.

Detroit gave up a premier receiver and a 7 th round pick next year.

Dallas also extended Roy Williams contact an additional 5 years giving them 2 premier wide receiver threats for years to come.

In 2006 Williams caught 82 passes for 1310 yards and 7 touchdowns. He has 262 career catches for 3884 yards and 29 touchdowns.

Jerry Jones  stated Roy has absolutely no character issues what so ever, and is very happy to have such a player joining the ranks of the Dallas Cowboys.

Terrell  Owens expressed nothing but welcome to a physical receiver who will play a big part in taking double team attention off Owens. These are now two  receivers on the same team that rate double teams.

This spells trouble for rival NFC East defenses and the rest of the league as well.

I think this will be a welcome relief after the Adam Jones problems and help Brad Johnson in his relief efforts as the starting quarterback for the next few weeks until Tony Romo returns.

Of course he has to learn the playbook and will probably run just some basic routes at 1st. I'm sure he will have a lot of help in the huddle on routes  and snap counts. He will have to cram to learn the proper audibles during play changes at the line of scrimmage.

After 2 or 3 weeks look out!  This is a huge added weapon to the Dallas offense.

Grade for deal:  A PLUS.
