Complete Trust and Confidence: The Views and Opinion of a Lewis Hamilton Fan

Billy SextonOct 11, 2008

Lewis Hamilton made a mistake on Sunday; he's admitted it. Nevertheless, he vows to keep pushing for wins. Some people may say this is foolish and silly; he needs to be conservative and pick up points instead. I say "Why not?"

Hamilton has proved himself to be and outstanding racer and he is the most successful rookie in Formula One history. He's been involved in a championship fight both seasons he has been in Formula One.

But people still criticise him and feel that he won't win the 2008 title.

Everyone makes mistakes, some more than others. It's a fact of life. I, for one, know that I have made mistakes more than a few of my friends, and I deal with it.

Hamilton is the same. He has made more mistakes than other drivers this season, but I feel he will still win the championship and here is why.

I am about to categorise Hamilton's bad races this season into a 'series' of mistakes and then show how he comes back.

Series One

The mistakes occur at the Malaysian and Bahrain Grand Prix. Hamilton impedes other drivers during qualifying and receives a penalty. Next race, he stalls on the grid and drives into the back of Fernando Alonso. He has four points from two races, whereas Raikkonen has 18 and Massa has 10.

Hamilton comes back though, taking three podiums in a row and winning in the streets of Monte Carlo, sending him near the top of the standings.

Series Two

The mistakes occur at the Canadian and French Grand Prix. Hamilton takes an outstanding pole but the next day drives into the back of Kimi Raikkonen in the pit lane and gets himself a 10-place grid drop for the next race.

At Magny-Cours, Hamilton begins to work his way through the field but cuts the chicane and doesn't give the place back. He finishes 10th and has zero points from two races whereas Massa has 14 and Raikkonen has eight.

Hamilton comes back again though, taking back-to-back wins at his home Grand Prix in Britain and at the Mercedes home Grand Prix in Germany, maximum points from two races.

Series Three

The mistakes occur at the Hungarian and Italian Grand Prix. Lewis starts from pole in Hungary but is passed at the first corner by Massa and goes on to finish fifth.

At Monza, Hamilton makes a totally incorrect tyre choice and this costs him as he qualifies 15th and finishes seventh. Massa has taken 23 points, whereas Hamilton has taken 20 points.

He is conservative at Valencia and Singapore and finishes on the podium in both races whilst his championship contenders suffer. It's looking good for the championship until...

Series Four

Hamilton takes a magnificent pole at the Japanese Grand Prix but forces Raikkonen off at the first corner and is then hit by Massa and scores no points whilst Massa closes the gap to five points.

At the Chinese and Brazilian Grand Prix...

To be continued

I hope you see now why I think Hamilton has it in him. He has shaky moments but comes back ever so strong; Australia was an example of his comeback after the heartbreak of 2007.

I'm looking forward to the two remaining Grand Prix. It's been an amazing season, and Lewis Hamilton is hungry for the title...
