UFC 133: Vitor Belfort, Yoshihiro Akiyama to Clash
UFC 133 has just gotten a little more interesting. Dana White has told ESPN that Vitor Belfort and Yoshihiro Akiyama have agreed to face each other.
Belfort was looking for a rematch against Wanderlei Silva at UFC Rio, but Silva instead will face Chris Leben at UFC 132.
Belfort (19-9) will instead face another brawler in Yoshihiro Akiyama.
Akiyama, who is 13-3 (2), was suppose to face Nate Marquardt at UFC 128, but was forced to pull out due to the tragedy in Japan.
Both men are coming off of losses. Belfort became Anderson Silva’s latest highlight reel victim as he was knocked out by a front kick to the face.
Akiyama on the other hand lost by unanimous decision to Michael Bisping. Another loss would be his third straight despite receiving Fight of the Night Honors in all of his UFC fights.
Vitor will look to use his quick hands to end the fight. Four of his last five wins have come by TKO or KO. The only problem for this fight is Akiyama can take a punch.
Akiyama's biggest problem will be his stamina. He’s looked physically exhausted in all of his UFC fights. If he can improve this, Vitor may have his hands full.
Whether it goes the distance or ends quickly, this could be Fight of the Night.
UFC 133 will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 6.
