Lockdown 2011: Kurt Angle-Jeff Jarrett Is TNA's Best Match in a Long Time
It's no secret that I, along with many other TNA fans, love to bash on Immortal. All the criticism comes with good reason too.
Immortal is in control, (at least until the "Network" steps in), yet all they do is talk until the viewer's ear is sore. Immortal did put on a good showing in the Lethal Lockdown match at Lockdown, but one member from it really stepped up and helped deliver TNA's best match in a while.
That member was Jeff Jarrett.
Any TNA fan knew coming in that a pay-per-view match with Kurt Angle is an almost guaranteed lock for match of the night. However, a feud that once disgusted me actually helped elevate this match even further.
The constant anger and hard feelings made you push for Kurt Angle even more than usual. The energy and emotion of this feud outdid Angle's past feuds with Desmond Wolfe and Mr. Anderson, something that was not easy to do.
While Jarrett did win the match through interference from Karen Jarrett, it took many tries from her to actually get him the win. There was a feeling of excitement every time Angle pushed through against the adversity the Jarretts gave him.
Finally, Jarrett won with a cage door to the head of Angle, and it left a viewer with a bitter taste, one that could only come from a truly great match.
The interference also solidified Karen's place as one of TNA's best heels, even though she does not wrestle.
In just a wrestling aspect, Angle showed once again why he could be TNA's best.
Angle did everything in the book almost flawlessly, from the ankle locks to his daring moves off the top of the cage. Angle sold very well that he was out of fuel and about to give in, only to spring back up and hit Jarrett with an Angle Slam.
Jarrett also deserves praise for his wrestling. After the match, it was revealed Jarrett had broken ribs during the match, yet still continued to put on a good performance.
It'll be very difficult for any match to top this for best match of 2011. Before a match even happened, a feud would have to be built up considerably. There is no way a feud could get as personal as this one though, unless a similar situation were to occur.
I hope for anyone's sake that it does not however. Only a select few wrestlers even have the wrestling ability of Angle, and very few can cut a promo like Jarrett. There is no true equal for Karen either.
If this is the final end for this very long feud, it ended at it's peak. Matches like this set the bar high for the rest of the TNA roster. I give both Jarett and Angle credit.
The real challenge now goes to Kurt Angle, can he outdo himself yet again?
