2011 NBA Playoffs: With LeBron James' Dunk, Miami Heat Lead 76ers at the Half
It's still open to debate whether the Miami Heat will win an NBA championship this season, but LeBron James and his teammates continue to prove they are perhaps the most exciting team to watch on the hardwood.
Following a Joel Anthony block off the glass midway through the second quarter of Game 2 against the Philadelphia 76ers, the Heat were off and running. When James ran opposite point guard Mario Chalmers on the break, we all knew what was going to happen.
It was time for a rousing alley-oop and dunk.
Sure enough, Chalmers threw it up to James at the rim on the right side, and he slammed it home with authority, shaking American Airlines Arena to its core and rattling the trailing Jrue Holiday's nerves in the process.
Seriously, was Holiday thinking, "I'm a point guard, but I'm going to block a linebacker on the basketball court?"
Right now, the Heat are predictably having their way with the 76ers at the half, 49-31.
James has 12 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Chris Bosh has followed with 13 points and seven rebounds.
76ers bench-warmer Evan Turner leads the Sixers with 10 points.
Holiday, still jittery from that thunderous slam from above, has four points on 2-of-7 shooting.
The Heat are making sure to let everyone know their close matchup with the 76ers in Game 1 was a fluke, and they have a chance to win a title this year.
Of course, they still have to likely get through the Boston Celtics and Chicago Bulls to even make it to the NBA Finals, but the talent is certainly there to make it interesting.
Perhaps the reason James and the Heat have had trouble closing out nail-biters this season is because James resorts to jumpshots.
Why not just slam it in someone's face?
Makes sense to me.
