Kurt Busch Crash Video: Watch Busch Cause Wreck at Talladega
If Dale Earnhardt, Jr. hadn't placed fourth on Sunday in the Aaron's 499 at Talladega and seen his teammate Jimmie Johnson place first, who knows if he would have lit into two-car drafting again after a big wreck caused by teammates Kurt Busch and Brad Keselowski.
Demonstrating concerns some drivers have with the susceptibility of more wrecks using the two-car drafting approach, Busch actually accidentally clipped Keselowski on Sunday, sending him barreling into Trevor Bayne, David Ragan and Kasey Kahne.
Kahne's car caught on fire while Bayne deemed it one of the hardest hits he'd taken, via FoxSports.com, but both were cleared medically after the race.
Bayne ended up finishing 40th, Ragan finished 39th and Kahne finished 37th.
Busch finished better than all of them, at 18th place, even ahead of Keselowski, who finished 33rd.
Talladega ended with a photo finish, with four tandems crossing the checkered flag within a split second of each other.
Johnson, aided by Earnhardt, finished in first ahead of Clint Bowyer by 0.002 seconds.
Those involved in the finish were visibly excited on TV, and it appears the new two-car drafting should lend for closer races, as well as more dramatic wrecks.
Obviously, those wrecked on Sunday couldn't have felt great about the outcome, but the fact is crashes will always be a part of NASCAR, no matter if it's one against 40 or tandems battling at it.
With the two-car drafting, racers actually can dually avoid crashes if there's danger in sight, instead of just one pair of eyes surveying the field.
Nonetheless, get ready for a wacky season in NASCAR, folks.
