RB: Fantasy Rankings For Week 6

RB: Fantasy Rankings for Week 6

Must Starts:

1. Clinton Portis vs. the Rams. Portis of 2008 is beginning to look like the Portis of his Denver days, piling up big yards and putting the ball in the end zone, and after two hard fought victories over division rivals Philly and Dallas, he gets an early Christmas present in the St. Louis Rams’ defense. In what could be a lopsided win for the Skins, look for Portis early and often and 150 yards is not out of the question, with 2 TDs.

2. Adrian Peterson vs. the Lions. Remember Peterson’s record breaking day last season vs. the San Diego Chargers where he went off for 296 yards, with over 250 coming in the 2nd half? Well, this week he could top that. It’s not really that far fetched of an idea. In come the Detroit Lions, football’s equivalent of MLB’s Washington Nationals, and bring with it its beleaguered defense. After Chicago’s romp last weekend 34-7 in Detroit, head coach Rod Marinelli publicly stated that he hadn’t quit on the season; I can’t say the same about his team. AP should run all day and I see between 150-200 yards on the ground with at least 2 scores, one being a 50 yarder +.

3. Willis McGahee vs. Indianapolis. If McGahee is healthy, he should find a lot of success on the ground against the Colts. The Colts, minus star Safety Bob Sanders, have not been able to stop anybody: two weeks ago both Jacksonville RBs (Taylor and Jones-Drew) went for over 100 and last week, Houston rookie Steve Slaton went for 90+ yards and 2 scores. Look for more of that from McGahee in what will be a close scoring contest.

Sleepers:

1. Steve Slaton vs. Miami. The Fins are coming off two consecutive wins against both participants in last year’s AFC Championship game. Houston is coming off a horrific loss, the worst in a long time, where the team surrendered 21 points with just over 4 minutes left in the game to lose to division rival Indianapolis and move to 0-4. The Texans get QB Matt Schaub back for this one and should be able to move the ball through the air, allowing Slaton holes to run through on his way to a strong day. Look for 80+ yards and score.

2. Darren McFadden vs. New Orleans. The Saints made a concerted effort to stop Adrian Peterson Monday night and held him in check throughout the game. This opened up things for the Vikings passing’ game and Frerotte tossed two TDs in Minnesota’s victory. I don’t see the Saints giving the same type of respect to Oakland and its ground game and that’s why I see McFadden putting up some solid yardage and even breaking a long run against a Saints’ defense that’s not very good. Look for 75 yards + and one score.
