Chael Sonnen Sentenced to a $10,000 Fine and Two Years Probation at Hearing
Chael Sonnen's verdict has finally come down the wire today. Sonnen faced stiff penalties for his role in a money laundering case where he pleaded guilty to the charge.
Sonnen will now be fined $10,000 for his role and will serve two years probation, U.S. attorney's office spokesperson Gerri Badden told MMA Fighting. The stiff penalties Sonnen did face were a possible fine of $500,000 and 20 years in prison.
Sonnen was sentenced by the U.S. District Court in the district of Oregon's Portland courts by Judge Michael W. Mosman.

The 34-year-old middleweight fighter was charged and later plead guilty to the charge on January 3rd.
Two other defendants were charged in the case. Part of the case was mortgage broker Marty Folwick, who helped put together as many as 70 fraudulent loans and took as much as $900,000 in kickbacks. Folwick received a 63-month prison sentence.
Also, loan officer Kamau Herndon submitted three false home applications totaling more than $1.5 million in his role and will receive two years behind bars.
There are currently three more defendants that are in the trial or sentencing phases of the case.
Sonnen came close last August to dethroning current UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva, but was caught and submitted. Sonnen later tested positive for high levels of testosterone and epitestosterone that led to a suspension that he recently concluded.
Sonnen has no fight in the future and his ability to coach the 14th season of The Ultimate Fighter seems doubtful.
