Coach Pushes 11-Year-Old
During the postgame handshake line of a Park Rock Football League game, Coach Tony Warneke pushed an opposing player by the name of Wesley Davenport. That alone is salacious enough but there’s more to the story. Wesley is 11-years old and the incident was caught on tape.
According to the Warneke, little Wesley—who was still wearing pads and a helmet—was berating his players by saying they “suck.”
“When he got close he said you blanking suck. And I reached out and shoved him and said knock it off now,” said Warneke.
He also says he would have done the same thing to his own son.
The father of the precious child, Joe Deavenport, did what any father would have done in such a horrifying situation, he put on a dress and called police.
“An adult no matter whether you’re a man or a woman should not be reaching out and physically touching someone else’s child in this matter, ever. It’s infuriating,” Deavenport said.
What’s infuriating is no one in this story conducted themselves in an appropriate manner. Coach Warneke, instead of losing his temper, should have pulled the child aside and rebuked him for his insolence. That’s what coaches do. That’s also what adults do in public in this age of ubiquitous video cameras.
Daddy Deavenport seems more concerned about his son's scholarship then he does about his son’s character. What do you expect from a grown man who uses the phrase, “physically touching.”
The only person in this story who acted the way were supposed to act was little baby-doll Wesley. Boys talk smack. Sure, this brat deserved a push but he will get plenty from his peers. If the kid is so annoying that he can force a grown man to loss his cool, think of all the drubbings cuddly Wesley will receive from kids his own age.
