TUF 14: Chael Sonnen Might Not Coach Ultimate Fighter vs. Michael Bisping
The idea of Chael Sonnen coaching The Ultimate Fighter 14 could go either way at this point, but it is looking fairly unlikely to happen.
"The Wrestling Observer" recently reported this week that Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping were being reviewed as possible options. But UFC president Dana White has told MMAjunkie.com that no decisions have been made as to who will be coaching the 14th installment of the reality show.
"We have no clue who will coach; Chael has a ton of problems [right now]," White said to MMAjunkie.com.
Sonnen has a couple of problems that could stop the Nevada State Athletic Commission from re-licensing the former No. 1 middleweight title contender.
Sonnen has plead guilty to a federal money laundering charge that allegedly occurred during a 2006 real-estate deal. At his sentencing on Friday, he is expected to receive a two-year probation, $10,000 fine and the revocation of his real-estate license.
Not only does he have legal problems, Sonnen has also flunked a drug test due to high testosterone levels at UFC 117 and received a six-month probation that he recently concluded.
On top of both those problems, according to the MMAjunkie.com report, Sonnen also has an issue with NSAC commissioner Keith Kizer. At his California State Athletic Commission hearing about his failed drug test, Sonnen claimed that Kizer was aware and approved of Sonnen's past testosterone-replacement therapy in the state of Nevada. Sonnen said that therapy led to the failed drug test.
Kizer has since denied the accusations.
In the wake of Sonnen's federal money laundering charge, the UFC froze the pay of Sonnen, but didn't cut the fighter.
