Yoosof Farah's Top Five EPL Goals: Matchday Seven

Yoosof FarahOct 5, 2008

Here are my top five goals from this weekend's action in the Barclay's Premier League:

5) Peter Crouch - Portsmouth

Fantastic acrobatics from Peter Crouch to give Portsmouth the lead, as well as prove to Fabio Capello what he's capable of. After Jermaine Defoe chipped a great ball into the box, Crouch scored his fourth goal in three games with a stunning volley on the turn that left Stoke's Thomas Sorensen no chance.

4) Grant Leadbitter - Sunderland

A brilliant shot from 25 yards out that clipped the underside of the crossbar on it's way in. Leadbitter made an instant impact to the game after only coming on as a substitute a minute before. After picking up the ball midway into the Arsenal half, Leadbitter smashed home a ferocious shot that not even a keeper like Almunia could save.

3) Javier Garrido - Manchester City

It was in some style that Spaniard Javier Garrido scored his first ever goal for Manchester City. After Shaun Wright-Phillips was bundled by Albert Riera, Garrido felt the resulting the free-kick was a great opportunity to show City fans that this left-back can do more than just defend. So up he stepped, to curl a brilliant shot past Jose Reina and into the top right corner, from 25 yards out.

2) Geovanni - Hull City

It was only nine minutes into the game, but Hull City's Geovanni thought he would compound Tottenham's woes and show the other side of North London his wonder goals. He has sent out a strong message to all teams in the EPL; never concede a free kick against Hull City 30 yards from goal. If you do, just like Spurs found out today, Geovanni will step up and use his Brazilian magic to curl a brilliant shot that will fly into the top left corner, and give your keeper no chance.

1) Matthew Taylor - Bolton Wanderers

Deservedly the top of my list. Robert Green is a lucky man he did not get a hand to this. If he did, it would probably fall off. We have seen some pretty good free kicks this weekend, with Geovanni and Javier Garrido both scoring great goals, but their goals don't compare to Taylor's.

Just as the Hammers though they could get back into this game and knick an equalizer, they concede a free kick 30 yards from goal. Taylor steps up and smashes in a ferocious shot that tells the Hammers with a resounding no, that there is no way back into this game anymore. Credit to the back of the net for not breaking upon impact.
