Week Six SEC Wrapup
Some observations on Saturday's action.
Vanderbilt's the big story of course. Their schedule the rest of the way is tough, but about as favorable as they could hope for, Miss. State next week is their last SEC West opponent, which means no LSU or Alabama. They play on the road against Georgia, but get Florida and Tennessee at home. Do you believe in miracles?
Auburn's inability to move the football finally caught up with them. QB's and offensive coordinator will be taking the blame down there, rightfully so I guess. Season's goal has now been reduced to ruining Alabama's hopes in the Iron Bowl.
I watched the entire Florida game against Arkansas. It was much closer than the final score indicated. At the start of the 4th quarter, Florida was only up 17-7, which was the same lead they had against Ole Miss last week before the wheels came off.
Demps and Rainey each ran for just over 100 yards. I think we'll be seeing a lot of those two guys the rest of the way. Tebow actually threw an interception! I believe it is only the sixth of his career and the first one I've seen that was his fault. Stop the world, I want to get off!
Alabama lost some of their mojo and swagger, struggling at home against a mediocre Kentucky team. 17-14 score was closer than the game was. I watched most of it and you hardly ever had the feeling that Kentucky had a real chance.
Some ruffled feathers may be settling down in Gamecock land. Beating an Ole Miss that beat Florida last week must have felt good. The loss to Vandy isn't looking as bad either. Offense put up 405 yards. If that becomes a trend, they could be dangerous in the second half. They get LSU at home and play Florida at the Swamp.
A real thriller in Knoxville. A 13-9 win over Northern Illinois. Are they really that bad?
Non SEC comments
Ohio State got a solid win on the road, but didn't make the kind of statement they needed to. Pryor looked very very good. As a freshman, he's got to be the greatest recruiting tool. Look for OSU to be loaded with new talent for the next three years.
Got to watch a lot of Missouri, Texas and Oklahoma for the first time this year. Missouri and Texas were more impressive, only because they were playing against better teams. Texas vs. Oklahoma next week could be the game of the year.
