TNA Wrestling Analysis: To the Max

Tyson JonesApr 28, 2011

Recently, TNA had it's annual Lockdown PPV. The card featured such matches as Fortune vs. Immortal in a Lethal Lockdown match, and Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Jarret in an "Ultra Male Rules" match.

This article isn't about either of those matches, or a match itself. This is about a new X-Division standout named Max Buck; formerly one-half of the tag team: Generation Me.

In recent weeks, leading up to the split of GenMe, signs made it clear that the two brothers were having difficulties. Twice the two brothers faced off, and both times Max Buck picked up clean victories over Jeremy Buck. (It should also be noted, the matches took place both on iMPACT and Xplosion and were basically the exact same match. Not sure if that's common, but I found it odd.)

During the matches, Jeremy was in control for a good part, though Max still displayed the character of ego-maniacal older brother very well. Especially on the April 7th edition of iMPACT, when Matt attacked his brother as he looked to win the match for his team. Matt leveled Jeremy with a rope hung DDT during a tag-team match, where he teamed with Robbie E. to face Brian Kendrick, Suicide and Chris Sabin, leaving Brian Kendrick to win the match for his team and putting an end to Generation Me.

Ten days later, Max would enter the Xscape match along with Jeremy, Amazing Red, Suicide, Robbie E., Brian Kendrick, Chris Sabin and Jay Lethal. Max would go on to be the victor of this match and become the No. 1 contender to Kazarian's X-Division Championship.

I for one am a bit surprised that Max Buck was chosen as the X-Division's top heel, but thinking a bit harder on it, he does seem like a good fit. He uses the typical high-flying X-Division style, he's got talent not only in the ring but on the mic (always a plus) and he's relatively new as far as singles matches go. It's interesting to see him in action.

I gotta say, I'm liking the effect Fortune is having right now on TNA. With all its top guys in one group, they've been forced to elevate new people. Ink Inc. and Max Buck to be specific. Now, let's just see how TNA handles the pushes of these three young men.

I've been impressed with Max Buck as of late. I was a fan of GenMe since they came to TNA and loved their heel turn. I was a bit disappointed they didn't get the tag titles, but perhaps Max can get some gold of his own. He certainly would be a good X-Division Champion. I love the "It's all about me," gimmick that GenMe used as heels, and Max works well with it.

Only time will tell if Max Buck has what it takes to be X-Division Champion. I believe TNA is doing well with him, but I believe they'd be best off making Max champion. He's a well-rounded guy (which you rarely find in the X-Division,) and I think if anyone's proven they have what it takes to be a champion, it's Max.
