Dan Dickau Signs with Golden State Warriors
Highlighting day five of the Golden State Warriors' training camp, warriors.com announced that point guard Dan Dickau signed a contract with the Dubs, becoming the 19th player on the roster.
The 30-year-old point guard enters the Bay Area hailing from LA-LA land, in which he was part of the Los Angeles Clippers' roster last season.
Dickau, on the Warriors, reunites with soon-to-become fan-favorite Ronny Turiaf, team captain Stephen Jackson, and newly acquired Corey Maggette.
Turiaf and Dickau go way back to when they were an integral part of the Gonzaga basketball team, for which they achieved an impressive 28-3 record and a West Coast Conference title.
On the other hand, Jackson and Dickau meet again after their brief stint with the Atlanta Hawks in the 2003-04 campaign.
Lastly, for the second consecutive year, Corey Maggette joins up with Dickau wearing the same jerseys, but this time with a different name printed on the front.
Currently, the Warriors have four point guards, three of whom are under contract (CJ Watson, Marcus Williams, and Dickau). With Dickau's arrival to Oakland, rookie guard DeMarcus Nelson will face some difficulties in cracking his way into Oracle Arena.
Despite being one of the better standouts on the defensive end during training camp, according to various sources, Nelson should realistically be released.
Head coach Don Nelson has recently hinted at Watson to become the starting point guard for the Warriors next season due to his familiarity with the Dub's style of play. However, on an interview featured on warriors.com, Nellie seemed content and open about Dickau's presence, saying, "He's a veteran point guard and they're hard to find. He doesn't turn the ball over and he knows what he's doing."
Now, since the official opening of training camp, Nellie has not issued many comments of that likelihood.
What does that ultimately transpire to? Nothing, just yet. However, Dickau could certainly get the starting role for this team with Williams and Watson backing him.
Notes: Nelson is starting to give the veterans on the team some time off. Yesterday, Jackson and Al Harrington received their rest, and today Maggette and Andris Biedrins got their own. Nelson has refused to give rookies their needed breaks.
