Week 5 Fantasy Football Starts

Chris CastellanosSep 30, 2008

Week 5 Starts

QB

1.  Drew Brees –  Brees leads the NFL with 1,300+ passing yards. This week against  the Vikings expect that number to jump by another 300 yards. Minnesota's pass defense is ranked 17th and Brees showed what he can do in the past three weeks when given time.

2.  Eli Manning – Although Manning hasn't put up record numbers in the first three weeks, expect him to pass quite a bit against a 25th ranked Seattle defense. Both the Giants and Seahawks are coming off of a bye week so both teams should be rested. With the talent between his receivers and tight end, Manning has many options to turn to once he drops back.

3.  Chad Pennington – Normally Pennington would be a definite sit. This week however, the Dolphins are facing the NFL's 32nd ranked pass defense. If Ronnie Brown can't get things going on the ground, expect the dolphins to come out throwing. Pennington doesn't have any big name receivers since Chris Chambers was traded last year to the Chargers so who Pennington will throw to is up in the air.

4.  Jay Cutler – Cutler has three of the league leading receivers in the league. Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, and Tony Scheffler have a combined 70 catches, 890 yards, and an amazing 7 TDs. With Cutler posting these types of numbers, he is a must start against a 21st ranked pass defense.

5.  Donovan McNabb - Setting this season up for a record year, McNabb is on pace for 4,000+ passing yards and possibly 30+ TD passes. The key for McNabb is to stay healthy. As long as McNabb doesn't get hurt, he is a solid Fantasy football QB. Expect decent numbers again this week as Tony Romo proved the Redskins can be thrown against.

RB

1.  Michael Turner – This week Turner will face the 26th ranked rush defense. So far, Turner has 2 career games and expect his third to come on Sunday against Green Bay.

2.  Deuce McAllister – Finally McAllister is seeing some playing time. If the Saints get ahead against the Vikings on Monday, expect McAllister to see more carries to slow the pace of the game and burn the clock.

3.  Marion Barber – After a horrible week four for the Cowboys, expect them to revert back to giving Barber the ball. With only eight touches last week, the Cowboys fell to Washington. Had Barber been given the chance the outcome could have been different. Plus, the Cowboys are playing a 28th rank rush defense. Play him and don't look back.

4.  Ladanian Tomlinson – Althought LT is playing with a hurt toe, he will be facing the Miami Dolphins. Given the chance, LT will make big breaks and if he can get good blocks, could walk away with at least two TDs.

5.  Steve Slaton – Slaton is facing the NFL's worst rush defense this week. Giving up almost 200 rushing yards a game, expect Slaton to exploit the Colts' weak front four and a battered secondary.

WR

1.   Reggie Wayne – Wayne has not put up record numbers so far this season, but then again, neither have the Colts. Wayne is a dependable receiver and should put up consistent numbers this week and long as Peyton Manning gets time in the pocket to let the plays develop.

2.   Lance Moore – With Marques Colston and Jermey Shockey out this week, expect the other receivers such as Moore and Meachem to step up and get more looks from  Drew Brees.

3.   Hines Ward – Even with a hurt Rothlisberger, Ward can turn a 10 yard play into a 40 yard play. Must start no matter what league your in.

4.  Brandon Marshall – Marshall leads the NFL with receptions (31) despite being suspended during week 1. With Cutler under center, even more are sure to come.

5.  Terrell Owens - Tony Romo's favorite target was thrown to 19 times last week and only caught eight of them. After the game he had the nerve to complain aabout not getting the ball enough. He shouldn't be complain about not getting the ball enough but rather complaining about Shawn Springs preventing him from catching the ball. With that TO will still be one of Romo's favorite targets and get plenty of activity.
