The Monday After: Perfection.

The Monday After: Perfection.

A perfect embodiment of a concept. That's the 2008 Bengals. Some entrepreneur should print up 100,000 t-shirts proclaiming the Bengal's 2008 motto, “0-16 or bust!” With the Bengals Front Office clearly setting their sights on next seasons 1st draft pick, Bengals fans are clearly left with 2 concerns. “Please don't let Penn State have any Running Backs in the draft. And Heaven help us, if Oregon has any Quarterbacks in the the draft.”

Eric Ghiaciuc collected another Sunday payday. Gather those checks while you can, no other team in the NFL would allow you to serve as their starting center. How many times will Ghiaciuc have to be tossed into the Bengals backfield before someone in Cincinnati realizes this team has no center? Levi Jones continues his slide out of Cincinnati, the former 1st round pick appears a shell of his 2006 form. Without Willie to anchor this line, the lack of cohesion has produced deterioration in the passing game, running game, and offense. Chris Perry's biggest plays of the day, causing a fumble and creating a fumble. Perry helped put points on the board when the Bengals needed it. Perry also broke the Bengals back with his NFL leading 4th fumble. Offensively the Bengals created a confused cadence all day long, leaving the Bengals Defense sitting alone on the field.

Some friends called this game, a defensive struggle. Which left me wishing I too had drank some beer Sunday, enough beer to impair my vision and allow me to enjoy this woeful experience. This was no Defensive struggle, it was an Offensive sputter. Neither offense could produce much. Either Defense on the field Sunday wouldn't have stopped the other 30 NFL teams from scoring at will. Even the Rams, Lions, or Chiefs could have lit up the Bengals or Browns Defenses that showed up Sunday.

The Bengals Defense offered few bright spots during Sunday's “Sorry Bowl.” Geathers had some solid moments and one costly mistake. Rivers continues to channel Reggie Williams, doing nothing outstanding but producing stoutly solid results. Bringing his lunch to work and playing on the field every moment he's out there. Rivers on another NFL team might earn some whispers about being the defensive rookie of the year. On this team, nobody outside of Cincinnati will notice Rivers. Chinedum Ndukwe continues to audition for Dexter Jackson's job. Earning a nickname from the stands, fans were screaming “Nuke, Nuke!” Ndukwe will see more playing time this season. Dexter Jackson would be wise to plan for an off-season relocation now, with the housing market as it, Dexter should put his house up for sale now and beat the rush.

Put your hands together for Mike Brown's cost cutting moves of 2008. Rumor has the Bengals considering a Fan Un-Appreciation Day with Willie Anderson, Delta O'Neal, and Rudi Johnson jerseys handed out to anyone willing to sit through 60 minutes of an upcoming Bengals game.
