WWE: 10 Greatest Feuds of the PG-Era

Joe M.Jun 7, 2018

A few weeks ago, I posted a slideshow showcasing the 10 Greatest Feuds of the Post-Attitude Era (2001-2008). So many of you read, and more importantly, commented on the article, that I decided to post this slideshow, the 10 Greatest Feuds of the PG-Era.

WWE went PG in June 2008, so that is the cutoff—June 2008-Present. If a good portion of the feud happened before June 2008, then it will not be on this list,

As always, read through, and feel free to comment below, or you can send me an email at joe@wrestleslam.com.

1. Vince McMahon Vs. Bret Hart

1 of 10

This didn't exactly produce any great wrestling matches, but Bret Hart not only coming back to WWE, but feuding with Vince McMahon, his arch-rival, is extremely newsworthy.

They feuded for weeks, from January 4 to WrestleMania 26, and at WrestleMania they had a match.  What made the match, though, was the huge back story between the two, dating back to November 1997.

The match may not have been a great match, but seeing Bret put Vince in the sharpshooter, and then seeing Vince tap out to the sharpshooter was one of the greatest moments in wrestling.

2. Matt Hardy Vs. Jeff Hardy

2 of 10

It's the 2009 Royal Rumble and Jeff Hardy is moments away from retaining the WWE Championship and out comes Matt Hardy, who whacks Jeff with a Steel Chair and costs him the match, along with the WWE Championship.

This had been building up for some time now, since November of 2008, when WWE began having a mystery man throw Jeff down a stairwell, hit him with a car, and shoot pyrotechnics at him.

In the real world, Matt would have gone to jail.  but in the world of pro wrestling, attempted murder makes for a great WrestleMania match, not life in prison.

3. Batista Vs. John Cena

3 of 10

No their mini-feud from 2008, but their full-blown rivalry for the WWE Championship in 2010.

We saw a new, refreshed, heel Batista win the WWE Championship from a beaten John Cena and it led up to what was an amazing match at WrestleMania 26.

But it wasn't even over then. We saw this feud last even longer, and it ended with Batista leaving WWE.

Their WrestleMania Over the Limit match, and countless promos on Raw made for a very compelling few months of TV on Monday Night Raw.

4. Rey Mysterio Vs. Chris Jericho

4 of 10

This feud made the Intercontinental Championship worth something in mid-2009.

Chris Jericho and Rey Mysterio had an amazing series of matches, spanning over multiple pay-per-views, and Smackdown's.

A few of the matches were not only for the Intercontinental Championship, but for Rey's mask, also.

5. Sheamus Vs.Triple H

5 of 10

Not only was the build-up to their WrestleMania match very good, but the build-up to the match was great, also.

And even after WrestleMania the feud continued, producing a few memorable moments. Including Sheamus putting Triple H out for 10 months, when he attacked him with a lead pipe.

No one superstar has had a rise to the top as quickly as Sheamus, but after his run with Triple H, it was clear he was main event material.

6. Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels (1)

6 of 10

Leading up to WrestleMania 25, Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker were able to make WWE TV not only watchable, but great.

The promos they cut leading up to their huge WrestleMania match were simply some of the best we will ever see.

Then came the match itself at WrestleMania 25.

Most fans had this as a "dream match" in the back of their minds, but at WrestleMania 25 we saw The Undertaker face, and defeat, Shawn Michaels in one of the greatest matches in pro wrestling history.

7. Randy Orton Vs. Triple H

7 of 10

Their WrestleMania 25 match may have been a let down, but the build up to the match was picture perfect.

We saw Triple H and Randy Orton in some amazing promos, from Randy Orton claiming he had a disease, to Randy Orton kissing Stephanie McMahon, Triple H's wife.

Orton feuded not only with Triple H, but the entire McMahon family, and after weeks of heated build up the two had, what turned out to be, a mediocre match at WrestleMania 25.

But this isn't the 10 Great Matches of the PG-Era, it's the 10 Great Feuds.

And this feud was amazing.

8. Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels (2)

8 of 10

One year later, fans would get to see their dream match again, leading up to WrestleMania 26.

This time, though, Shawn Michaels' career was on the line.

Again, The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels cut amazing promos and made for great TV in the weeks before their WrestleMania 26 match.

This feud culminated with Shawn Michaels, arguably the greatest wrestler ever, retiring after, for the second year in a row at WrestleMania, taking part in one of the greatest matches ever.

9. Jeff Hardy Vs. CM Punk

9 of 10

Jeff Hardy and CM Punk were able to put on one of the greatest feuds in years during the summer of 2009.

It was due to CM Punk's new straightedge heel character, CM Punk's great mic skills, Jeff Hardy's athleticism, and, whether you agreed with it or not, WWE more-or-less exploiting Jeff Hardy's real life drug issues.

The feud ended with CM Punk retiring Jeff Hardy after he defeated Hardy in a Steel Cage Match on Smackdown, just a few days after their amazing SummerSlam main event.

10. Chris Jericho vs Shawn Michaels

10 of 10

This was hands down one of the greatest feuds in WWE since the Attitude Era, and maybe even in WWE history.

Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels had some amazing and memorable moments in the ring together, from their bloodbath at The Great American Bash in 2008, to Jericho punching Shawn's wife, Rebeca, in the mouth, to their amazing Ladder Match at No Mercy to their no-rules match on Raw.

There may be some feuds on this list that you don't agree with, but there is no way this is one of them.
