MMA's Berlin Wall Keeps Crumbling
Sitting back on this chilly and damp Sunday morning, I can recall When then President Ronald Reagan said "Take down that wall Mr. Gorbachev" and at the time I really have no idea of the significance it would have in world history.
In trying to find the Reagan-like spokesperson for MMA, I couldn't, but I did find another wall coming down. On Friday September 26th 2008, laws in Arizona which had previously outlawed MMA were a past history, a fading memory. MMA as a sport continues to gain ground across the country and becoming more widely accepted. This is yet another good sign for the sport and I'm sure I can speak for other fans in stating that states need to stop living in the past and just get with the program.
I watched a boxing match last night, Sugar Shane Mosley and the insanely wild fighter Mayorga. Aside from questioning why Mayorga was in the ring, I found myself analyzing what boxing has slowly become, a waste of time to watch.
Feeling cheated watching the entire fight I had wished I could have changed the channel to view an MMA fight but there were none on the television stations at least where I was. In my analysis though I still kept coming across the same parallels between boxing and MMA. Its slowly getting boring and needs some serious punch if its to continue getting my attention.
Anyhow, Royce Gracie's "Evolution of MMA" otherwise known as EVO MMA is making its appearance next Saturday being the first to capitalize on a $200 million dollar MMA jackpot.
Will MMA solve an economic meltdown, hardly, but instead of us being the aggressors in society, its nice to know we can vent by watching the pros do it. I myself know I'd like to put one of these oilmen in a rear naked choke, but that wouldn't solve much now would it?
