Arsenal May Have to Look Elsewhere for Silverware
Arsenal, toying with the emotions of their fans, was beaten 2-1 by Hull City. It was not a great performance by the Gunners, and if anything, Hull deserved their three points. Arsenal simply did not seem to have the urgency to get a result. When they were had control, it was as if they did not want to extend their lead.
That means that after six games in the EPL, Arsenal has already lost twice. Considering that they only lost three games in the whole of last season, the task of repeating that feat this season looks pretty much insurmountable.
It is amazing how one result can change a person's opinion. But, as I saw Arsenal crumble to what many would call an embarrassing defeat, I simply did not see a team destined to be champions. Let's face it, the team looked flat—good at times, but they looked out of depth and out-hustled by Hull.
Robin van Persie played poorly. He seemed selfish at times. He did not seem to be in the game, and I was surprised to see him finish the game. Theo Walcott was good in patches. But, then again, you cannot rely on a player like him every game.
In the build-up to Geovanni's cracker of a first goal, Denílson gave the ball away in a key position. It's strange, but that is what you will get from young players. They will blow your mind one game, and the next is full of errors.
This team is talented. There is barely any doubt in that. Arsenal has a great squad for the future as well. But, I am simply frustrated after watching William Gallas get beaten to yet another header from a corner for the opposition to score.
Wasn't he supposed to be a world-class defender?
Quite frankly, I think that Gallas should not even start. He has repeatedly shown that he has mistakes in him. Johan Djourou looks a lot more accomplished right now.
The most frustrating thing, however, is that Arsenal is a team capable of producing the most fantastic football. Yet I’m here, scratching my head about how we were turned over by a team like Hull City.
With all due respect, people here thought that Arsenal would beat Hull 4-0.
That's the beauty of the EPL, I guess. You see teams like Hull beat teams like Arsenal. One cannot help wondering what would have happened to Hull had they been at Old Trafford or Stamford Bridge today.
They would have been hammered.
I hope I'm wrong, but the Gunners are simply not ready. Maybe we should focus on winning any of the other three tournaments that we are a part of.
Arsenal simply does not have that ruthlessness in them. That's why, as a frustrated, annoyed, and maybe hasty fan—I don't see us winning the Premier League this season.
