UFC 127 Fight Card: Predictions For Fight, KO and Submission of the Night

First LastFeb 21, 2011

With UFC 127 being less than a week away, it's time to make some predictions.

While the card isn't being hyped as much as the one that preceded it, it features a lot of fights that could have major title implications, and that alone makes it intriguing.

The fighters' bonus awards would tell fans otherwise—that this is going to be one card you don't want to miss. Half of the fighters on the main card have earned bonuses.

Chris Lytle leads the pack with a total of seven bonuses, followed by Dennis Siver with four, Michael Bisping with three, George Sotiropoulos with two and Jon Fitch with one.

Expect a few of these numbers to grow this weekend.

Fight of the Night: Chris Lytle vs. Brian Ebersole

Chris Lytle and Brian Ebersole have over 100 fights combined. If they learned one thing by now, it's how to put on a show for the fans.

Ebersole is a late replacement for Carlos Condit, who pulled out of the fight with an injury.

Ebersole is relatively unknown to the mainstream MMA fans, but he is bringing a lot of experience into the cage against one of the most exciting fighters in the UFC. Don't expect him to go out easily.

Submission of the Night: George Sotiropoulos

Sotiropoulos has yet to pick up a Submission of the Night award, but he showcases his grappling skills in every one of his fights. He has claimed two Fight of the Night awards in fights that were spent mostly on the ground.

Siver's weakest area is his ground game, and this is where Sotiropoulos shines. His guard passing and transitioning is some of the best in the lightweight division.

This fight will hit the ground at some point, and it won't be long before the Australian fighters starts snatching limbs. What will make it even more impressive is he may get dropped before it happens. Siver comes to fight, and this is going to be a good one.

Knockout of the Night: Jorge Rivera

Bisping has all the technical advantages on his side: the boxing, ground game and cardio. What he doesn't have is one-punch knockout power, something Rivera does.

There has been a lot of trash talk leading up to this fight, especially from Rivera's side. Whether or not it got to Bisping's head is the big question. If it did, Bisping may be coming to look for a knockout, which isn't the best idea.

Bisping will have the advantage early, tagging Rivera with punches as he sticks and moves, but how long will it be before he decides to stand and trade power punches?

Maybe he won't, but all it takes is one punch from Rivera, and he has a good chance of landing it.
