Arsenal Isn't a One Man Team

Shyam ParthasarathiSep 25, 2008

I was asked by the World Football Community Leader, Salaar Shamsi, to write an article about the role that Cesc Fabregas should play this season. Somehow, I couldn't bring myself to write anything about him in particular.

Of course, Cesc is a superb player and can control a game with ease. That said, does the team rely on him solely for all the results?

Obviously not.

Cesc Fabregas' role this season is the same as the role of that of every other player in Arsenal's first team squad. Gone are the times when we used to look at Theirry Henry for inspiration, or when players on the pitch used to look only for Henry to play a pass to him. Today, the team expresses itself better on the field and they really look like a unit.

Arsene Wenger has developed the bond that this team shares. Everyone seems to fight for each other, they play until the very end and never give up. Cesc Fabregas is an important part of the team and would be a massive loss if he isn't present—but he isn't the only guy out there.

Denilson seems to be improving by the game, and back to front, Arsenal look like a unit. This team does remind me of the Arsenal team when Patrick Vieira was the captain. There seem to be partnerships everywhere and a real will to achieve something.

Cesc Fabregas, William Gallas, Kolo Toure, Bacary Sagna, Gael Clichy, and Robin van Persie—as the senior players should instill confidence in the others. When the chips are down, it is the senior players who the other players will look up to on the pitch.

That's where Cesc is a shining example. He, along with Toure and Clichy always have a drive until the end of every game. They never give up. It's almost as if they follow Wenger's "14 point memo" to the "T."

If anything, this Arsenal team should continue to play uninhibited, fluent football and not let the press get to their head. The press will call them "young guns" when they win and "kids who are not ready to win" when they don't. It's part and parcel of the game today and if this team remains level-headed, there's no saying what they can achieve this season.

That should be the role of the eleven players who represent Arsenal Football Club this season—not just that of Cesc Fabregas.
